My limitation as a trainer has become clear

I'm never going to be able to teach Hen heel and side until I can reliably tell the difference between left and right

Poor dog thinks the command for both is 'Heel, um, side I mean, oh bugger, heel rather, ermm good dog'

When my daughter was young in order to help her distinguish between left and right was to get her to feel her heart. The heart is on the left side and this is where the love comes from. Love also begins with L so that was easy to remember and you now know the other side must be right.

I remember it by thinking which hand I write with. Unfortunately while I'm going through that mental process I'll already have said heel as a reflex...

Basically I need to paint L and R on my boots

The idea is to do lots of practice without the dog so it becomes second nature.

Take Thumb and finger next to it - close other fingers. Left hand makes and L right hand doesnt!!

What hand do you write with? I write with my right hand ... so left and rights have always been easy to remember!

I learnt which hand was my right hand, I now know my left is my other, I could not learn both so my Mum taught me one!!!
