my little amersham pony pics as promised!!

Nice lad - and everyone is right about gates - I boarded mine to 3'6" so he stuck it through above there. yanked it back and almost got himself a chip fracture.

Here you go - the wound after about two months!

Nasty injury but as i say thankfully he can't get to the gate now it's fenced off with electric fencing. We did think about barefoot which he is on the back but we have access to fells and parkland round us which involves a few gravely tracks but the blacksmith says his back feet are solid enough to not need them unless we do miles and miles with him

I have a bottom rubber who lifts whole gates fence posts etc. I can never allow him near a fence so he is electrified with ribbon tape. It works wonders he is so scared of it the battery can be flat for a week or so before he realises its off(thats if he ever does)! Bless him. Works a treat!

Re the mites I have heard frontline dog is very good but I usually use Benzyl Benzoate from ie a friendly local chemist...get them to order you a really big bottle ie litre or more. I trim up the feathers as short as possible and slather the benzyl benzoate on really rubbing it into the skin etc(your hands will be nice and soft). It will pick up dirt too. The other thing I do is get loads of aqueous cream ie super drug or chemists own and apply this after a couple of days to sooth and stop the mites being able to cling to the hair etc. If the sores heal up a bit just once a week hibiscrub and start again withe the benzyl benzoate. I have never needed the jab and think that is an expensive?? drastic step? I do find keeping the hair off the floor/grass in the spring helps it keep to minimum.

BUT I love your boy he is just my type of cobby! He really looks cheeky and yes I dont blame him for not wanting to go round and round in circles...do schooling out hacking too. Well done you look like you have worked hard for him...good luck and he really is a lovely looking chap! Great pics.

Thanks for the advice indie999. he's a sweetheart despite his past but still needs a few issues sorting. He's constantly aware of what's behind him for one. We've spent alot of time doin work from ground shaking plastic bags at him having him walk past umbrellas and feed bags a big bouncy gym ball. He doesn't do anything stupid and he definetly doesn't know how to buck he just darts forward. We'll get there he's only 5 and he'll never be sold but somethings obviously happened at that awful place for him to have this issue
