For anyone who doesn't know the story here's a quick back ground....

Puppy is now approaching 1 year. I was given him at 5 months. Hes a Labrador out of good working parents and a very responsible lovely breeder, this pup is a one off all the others in his and previous litters have been 100%.

I took him on, on first sight expecting to have him pts pretty much instantly. He had a front leg deformity. I researched some good vets and had too wait a fortnight to see the one i wanted, during this time he make a remarkable improvement and weight gain.
The vet was amazed saying he'd never seen anything like it and wanted him in for further observations/xrays etc which we did. The outcome of this was that nothing could be done to help him- he was born this way and the joints just hadnt formed properly. However he was certain that the puppy was in no pain and said as he was perfectly able to get around himself and was so playful and happy that he advised not pts just yet but too see how things progressed.
I admit i was over the moon, Ive had a few dogs but this one has such a cheerful personality and is really so so happy he's just a joy to have around.

He continued to improve and get stronger and bigger and more active. He's not as big as he should be and probably never will be but is all in perfect proportion and healthy (you know what i mean!)

Then recently (again i posted here) i noticed what i thought to be slight hind leg weakness. This improved on worming and a week at home instead of his usual coming to work with me (week off was due to a bitch being in season at work and him disappearing every 5 minutes)
I am however still seeing a problem. Its not major but Im pretty sure its definitely there.
My family seem to be blaming me whenever i bring it up, like its my fault for spotting it, I dont know if they genuinely cant see it or if they are in denial- ignore and it might go away.
Their theory is He's in no pain, confirmed by the vet and they he's such a happy little dog (I cant deny this at all)
In my head i know he's not suffering pain wise but how do you know with a case like this when its time to call it a day?
If he showed absolutely any sign of pain or unhappiness it would be an obvious choice.
He chases balls in the garden, runs round my horses fields, play fights with my JR and for hours with anyone willing to have an arm chewed. His tail go's constantly flat out, he eats like a horse.
Obviously he's going to the vet again but I've been unable to book an appointment as the particular vet i see with him has been away on leave.
Apart from the fact he's seen this dog several times and the stages of his improvement i just really trust and value his opinions. He's back on Monday and i have an appointment then. I haven't told my family because i know they will hate me for it.
Im so worried and stressed about the whole thing and the fact they are being so unsupportive is really difficult as its not clear cut- this poor little dog genuinely loves life.

I didn't want to read and run, but can't be very helpful.

You are doing the right thing. Your family are probably appearing unsupportive as they are scared. I had a similar thing recently regarding one of my horses. However things did change and I am sure they will for you, especially when your family realise anything you do, you are doing for this little guy.

He sounds delightful, fingers crossed for your appointment next week.

Thank you, apriciate your reply, he really is awesome! We are just off too poo pick the horses field and his enthusiasm far out weighs mine but almost makes me happy to do it ;)
Maybe your right about the family thing?!

I seem to remember he couldn't stand on his front legs but pushed himself around with his hinds, if that is right, how is he managing if he rear end is failing as well?

No, I think i described it all wrong on that thread. He stands and walks/runs on his front legs, They join his body at bit of an angle compared to a normal dog but he is strong in front and has no problem walking.
The issue was on laminate flooring he skidded around a lot, which to be honest our old dog did aswell.
He's actually still getting round fine.

Could someone maybe tell me how to post a photo- It might be easier than trying to explain?!

Open a photobucket account, upload pic from your computer and copy and paste the 'IMG' code.
Glad he can still get about.

I would think possibly that the weakness on his front leg has put extra strain on his hinds which are now showing signs of wear and tear. I agree with hellspells, your family are probably a little scared as to what further tests will show so are being ostrich like about his problems. You are doing the right thing getting the vet to check him over, please let us know how you go on.
