Following up the earlier post about Preloved ads I thought I should put my head above the parapet and say that I did acquire a lovely young dog through the website 6 weeks ago. She is a lab cross, just 9 months old and has settled in very well with my older lab and to a lifestyle far different from that in her previous home. She has been checked by my vet and all is well though of course I don't have any history or knowledge of her parents, healthchecks etc. I'd had a few false starts with rescue centres and never thought I'd follow up a small ad but I am glad I did. Hopefully a photo if I've done it right.... this is Ali

Ali is lovely!

I don't think anyone has anything against Preloved or sites like them per se and there are many genuine people on there, but it HAS become a dumping ground for people who can't be arsed with their dogs any more and quite literally a breeding ground for scammers, puppy farmers and backyard breeders after a quick buck and that's what people are railing against.

There are people who advertise for 'free or cheap dog for my children' or 'my dog died and I am heartbroken' and then collect dogs and sell them on at high prices for example, the sites have been used in the past (Not talking about Preloved) to sell on stolen dogs, fake rescues who sell on dogs and horses, that sort of thing.

You'll find no judgement from me - I saw mine in an ad in the paper, rang up and asked for more info and a photo, got directed to the Preloved ad... picked her up the next day. :o

As much as I am determined to do it all properly for a second dog there's not a day goes by when I don't browse the site and wish I could get them all out of the cycle of numpties.

Another Preloved dog here. Very well bred etc, but the owner just couldn't keep her. They aren't all puppy farmed etc, there are some genuine ones. A lot of the ads on web sites are dodgy but not all. Have lots of fun with your new dog.

Thanks she is lovely and I hope we will have fun with agility and dock jumping as she gets older. CC I have seen ads like the ones you suggest. I do hope that I was not taken in by one of these people (you can never be sure) but being a natural sceptic I did check the dog lost registers for similar dogs and she had no existing microchip. I believed that the people were genuine about their ownership of her and reason for sale but whatever the truth at least she is now in a lifetime home and safe. I do wonder though if she will grow into her ears!

What CC said :) Though my hands are full at the moment with my current pup, I would have no qualms in the future taking on a dog genuinely advertised on preloved or any other site as needing a new home. Especially as my current living situation seems to be a hard one for rescues to understand :) When people reference 'preloved dogs' etc. they generally mean those that are designer crosses bred for no reason other than quick money, or other various scammers.

Ali looks absolutely lovely, I bet you and she are pleased to bits with each other. I'm very sorry if any comments I made on the other thread offended. They certainly weren't meant to be aimed at those who give a dog another chance.

/\/\ This - your dog looks lovely and I wish you all the best. It's the numpties that breed weird crosses then try and pass them off as pedigree / KC registered (as two of the ad's I put in my post did ) that drive me bananas.

Ditto all the above, it is the idiots who advertise designer crosses, and those who palm off dogs cos they are bored with them I lost patience with. Your pup looks gorgeous, look forward to lots of updates.

Both of my boys came from freeads, one genuine rehome (I hope) and one mongrel pup. Both fab dogs that required new homes for whatever reason :)

Ali looks adorable and i'm extremely jealous that you're gonna be doing dock jumping, have wanted to have a go at the since KatielouHouston posted pics of it on here, keep us updated on how you get on with her :)

She looks gorgeous and is the reason I have banned myself from looking at preloved et al or i would be up to my eyes in dogs :) Is it just me or is there something saluki ish about her face?

BTW what is dock jumping

Damn I have just written a response but it got lost in the ether when I pressed submit. Oh well here goes again.
Thanks for the nice comments about Ali. She is a good girl. A few issues but what 9 month old rehomed dog doesn't. Brownmare, I know what they said she is crossed with nut still thinking about that and investigating - but it wasn't Saluki! I can see where you are coming from though.
Mollichop and Brownmare, I've been involved with dock jumping or diving with my older dog for a few years now. It's a measured long jump into water. There are two organisers in this country, Dash N Splash and Dock Dogs. The dog basically runs along a 30' runway and jumps into a 40' pool. The length of the jump is measured to nose (Dash N Splash) or base of tail (Dock Dogs). Dash n Splash was featured in Blue Peter a couple of weeks ago, You could see Digger and I jumping at the beginning. BP sent Barney the dog and Joel the presenter to Paws in the Park which was good fun seeing how they reduce hours of filming to a 10 minute piece on the show. Happy to provide more info if anyone would like to get involved. Digger jumping a couple of years ago:

That looks amazing but my dogs would be total failures - they are more the I'll-dip-my-toes-in-and-maybe-go-deeper-if-its-warm-enough type
