No point really, I just get so upset about the poor TWH's and I wondered if drawing one in such a childish manner would stir up some interest on my art sites, where perhaps the plight of TWH's isn't as well known.

Meet Sky Walker!

SkyWalkercopy.jpg

Sky Walker was born into a showing family. Generation after generation of prize winners. Sky never understood why she had to go through the pain she faced every single day, but she put up with it and tried her best. "Can't have beauty, without pain!" or "Pain before gain!" her parents would say, but she knew they hurt as much as she did.
The chains and pads hurt her hooves. Though, they could hardly be called 'pads'. They were solid and filled with nails that dug into her. Apparently her high stepping action was beautiful, but she saw all the other horses and was jealous of how they walked. It looked so painless and pretty.
Sky was meant to be a Pegasus, but her bloodline hadn't flown for years, they probably didn't even remember how.

Nah, go for it. Perhaps enhance the 'stacks' a little, people that aren't in the know need to be able to see how wrong they are.

Even that little paragraph brought a tear to my eye. Well done :-)

Worth a try. Anything that brings even just one persons attention to this cruelty is worth it :) The little paragraph is very well written. Well done :)

You need to include the daily beatings to achieve that sought after 'alert' look, and having her broken tail strapped into a harness to make it stand up, and being ridden in vicious curb bits by great big men when she is only a baby...:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

On a better note, you are seriously talented.

Goodness, I didn't think I'd have any "pro" comment :O

"I'm personally a huge fan of American Saddlebreds, and similar stuff can happen in the ASB circuits too But I do love a natural "big lick" gait- it's very fun to ride! I'm very against using soring methods (or any other method that causes pain), but light chains can be a good thing as long as they aren't too heavy- it helps promote blood circulation and it's like the horse is wearing a bracelet "

Not really sure how to reply to that :S

Someone needs to wake up and smell the coffee

There is the natural gait, and the Big Lick gait. Two very different things, and the latter can ONLY be achieved through pain, fact.

I was just reading H&H news:
http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/news/397/312749.html

I have read up before but this truely shocked me, his name is Jackie O'Connell and this is the undercover video that lead to this arrest....
(warning very sad to watch, the only positive is thast he might now go to jail for it!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxVlxT_x-f0&feature=related

I truely hope he rots in jail, in an ideal world i'd tie him up with chains, pour caustic chemicals on his feet and see how high he could get his legs :eek:

Thanks MyPinkPony! I used your link in my reply to them

"I'm sorry, but anyone who treats horses like this is just awful :( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxVlxT_x-f0&feature=related I've seen TWH's who haven't been forced to do the big lick, and they're so beautiful. But the 'show' animals just look like disables hyenas."

I could have gone on, but I wanted to keep it short. That video made me cry :(

Perhaps I should do a series "My Little Cruelty"

I saw that video. It actually made me throw up. Never done that before, but there were tears and yuck over my car.

I cannot believe that anyone would do what he does.

I'll qualify that - I know there is untold cruelty going on in the world, but the horse that could not get up, the horse that was being beaten around the head by a huge piece of wood.

I hope he goes to prison and karma does its thing.

The video is sickening. I have read about the techniques used, but it is shocking to see such wanton cruelty.

And for what? There's no natural beauty in the movement produced, it looks grotesque.

At least there has been one small piece of justice, but how many others are getting away with it. And all for ego and money.

God I wish I hadn't looked at that video. Its the worse one I have seen.

Trouble is the trainers have a gang-like mentality and are a scary bunch from what I have seen in the past. The horses are nothing but money making machines to them... Totally sickening and vile.

He should be beaten and sored himself. I hope he gets that in jail and forever in hell. Not a human being.

I do like your little drawings, do you have a website with them on?

That is one of the sickest and most disturbing videos of abuse I have ever seen. I can't understand how anyone can treat such a beautiful animal in such a way. I hope the horses in the video will now live a happy life with someone loving and patient

OMG those poor horses in that video, imho thats almost worse than 'genuine' cruelty as its all done to acheive a result that is revered by showing judges :( :( :(

If they could ship them over here they could have a nice home with me, see my excellent normal farrier and lie down as much as they wanted :(

Absolutely shocking. I think your little image and story are lovely but it should have a tear rolling down the cheek.

Worst thing is I believe that all those in 'the know' and who seriously follow the TWH scene know the training methods, they just choose to ignore it.

No doubt about it ' Big Lick' is Sick !

I have been monitoring this abuse for a couple of years now - fortunately there is a growing band of opponents in the States but they have a long way to go to and many hurdles to climb over to try to stop it. Alas it is a huge money making industry. Things can get ugly where money is involved.

However abuse is not just confined to the showing of TWHs – when some folk want the prestige of winning in the show ring they will do anything to their horses to achieve it. What the rest of us do not see no one is going question.
