After being away from my horse for 10 weeks (overseas work secondment) went very badly and I now have a fractured foot! One of those "wrong place wrong time" accidents and I am now out of the saddle for at least circa 6 weeks.

I did everything sensibly, in that she's been kept-in work whilst ive been away at the full livery shes been at (where I keep her normally). Did an initial session in the school and thought as the weather was good yesterday we would do a short road hack we've done loads of times before (and shes been doing whilst ive been away). She was typically good as gold but nothing prepared me or her for 2 scramblers that came out of nowhere behind us and decided the best plan was to accelerate past. She freaked (they are so noisy and they made no effort to slow down or keep a distance) and I panicked as i couldn't see them until one was right next to me and the other behind me. They shouldnt even have been on a public road - shes been fine with motor bikes but these guys were just idiots. I was off my mare before I realised what was going on and she shot off. Thankfully my mare ran into the nearest open field and hid there and thankfully there are some very good people about and a lady stopped her car and helped me out. My mare was a little shaken but otherwise fine and she calmed down after 5 minutes and i rode her back.

Gutted doesn't describe it - though I appreciate I am also lucky in that it could haven been worse. My mare and my older mare due to move home from livery in 3 weeks and with me now in plaster it's more than a logistical nightmare. Feeling pretty sorry for myself at the minute!
