He looks lovely .. apart from the pic after his Sunday hack as he looks absolutley shattered, lol

Am I the only one with a REALLY hairy TB?

PS ... where do you get the time to work him 6 days a week in the winter?

he was tired haha bless him ready for bed! there was alot of fast work today up a few hills and went round twice and he took off on me n 2nd round so hes more tired than ussual bless him!!

i work 9-5 but hack him out striaght after work we have alot of bridle paths and feilds to work on and loads of lit roads and i dont have a social life haha

I would say if we were 'coming out of winter' I would be happy with his weight but it's only the 6th of January so we still have a couple of months where it could get very cold! Therefore I would not really want to be seeing his ribs as you can in the first picture.

I'm no nothing about feeding so can't advise but would definitely up his forage.

Lovely boy though

He looks lovely sounds lovely and is clearly one lucky horse agree he looks knackered after his hack....one of those pics that makes me feel tired! But what a nice face and nice pics.

Good luck.

He looks a lovely type, could as you have pointed out do with more top line but perhaps a pessoa or long reining would help with that area.

Loving the optimistic "coming out of winter" I wish I had your glass half full approach to early January!!!!

Lovely lad, although I would also say end of winter is more like erm march?! :o (just to save you a nasty shock if it snows next month ;))

I would say maybe up his forage? Maybe help a little more cover on his ribs?

Woah you must get sick of riding in the dark every night!!! Wouldn't have the stamina for that!

thanks hes a great lad one of a kind best money i ever spent i wouldnt give him up for th worl he enjoys his work and would go all day if i let him!

sorry for sound igranant now but i cnt see his ribs in 2nd pic? i cant see them when i look at him either i know theres another month or so where it could get terribly cold but weathers sound alright so far so good :)

i wont be upping his feed in case of colic hes out on grass 8 hours a day sometimes more and they live out some nights too and he gets as much hay as he can eat when hes stabled :)

i dont work him to a point hes on his knees ever its just the right amount of work for him at the moment and he ever struggled id slow it down, im hoping by the summer he willbe fit enough for 3-4 hour endurance rides.... think he will be though :)

although i would appreciate how to keep him interested in the school schooling if anyone has any tips?!

yes the picture does make u thinkg tired! he looks like this all the time though even before working and in feild he permantly has this face...:)

he has a very kind looking face bless him!

Hes made me realise how hair my mare is, reclipped her today and her blacket area is about an inch long haha, his coat is so short next to hers! very jealous!

just seen the pessoa comment missed that one! i do have one but as my sand paddocks not the best and loads of wholes and quite deep i very rary go in we have a feild near by to school on but i choose not to in the dark so could do that on a weekend when i have light days as there are few wholes i wouldnt be able to see in dark!

any tips hacking i could do other than the halt-cantering transitions ans we do this alot and hes great at it.

we are just learning to back up now aswell hes slowly getting it

charlottesarah thats brilliant :) i think this is a good weight considering hes worked alot through the week comming to show season id liek a little more but thats not untill april so ill slow his work down in march :)

considering hes not hairy either he sweats so much he was out in his medium this week and he keeps comming in with sweat patches so changed to a light weight same in his stable so hes in a light fleece! hes getting a full clip next year!

Lateral work is great for hacking, you can (providing its safe to so eg traffic) do leg yeild, half passing, hind and fore yeilds as you ride along.

Change speeds and impulsion within a pace

Hacking will be the best place to school him if he switches off in the arena.

Oh and I thought i saw his ribs in the 3rd pic? Could be the light :)

Sorry but in the first picture I'm sure you can see his ribs -might just be where the sun is shining on him. If your happy with his weight that's the main thing as you're the one who see's him in the flesh and it sounds like he is getting plenty of forage so that's good.

Thank you! Can't believe how much work you can get out of him! Good look with show season! My boy was dripping after his lesson on Sunday, he's definitely going to need a clip! Only problem is I don't think he's seen a pair of clippers in his life so I'm scared about his reaction! How did yours react to them?:)

if he stand a certain way sometimes and turns his head you can see ribs or if he does one of those big sighs!

im pretty happy this is the best hes looked in a long time he was a lot rounder a few months ago but due to me working him now his dropped off his belly and is turning in to muscle which is great :)

thats great ill do alot more lateral work get him engaging and listening!

I think Tilda has it spot on, hes in a good amount of work and looks great but if you can ad lib hay it and maybe add oil to his feed rather than give more feed (especially if he is good energy/temperament) if you worry he is losing condition.

Lucky boy looks like a very smart horse indeed!

charlottesarah, aw sounds like he needs a clip haha although it has been alot warmer past few days!

mines seen clippers and was clipped in racing but when i came to clip him this year he freaked out so got a friend who clips all time to do it we took it slow and started on shoulders where its easier to start untill he settled then we had a break before sarting the other side and the break was about 10 mins long but enough fo him to slip out when they turned back on a reared but he settled very quickly....

you could always give yous some sedaline we had some ready just incase :)

plus mines not the easiest TB to deal with hes stubborn and doesnt give uo fighting you and everything has to be his idea!

thanks he defo gets adlib as there always some left in his nets in the morning so hes eating as much as he can...

the oil is a good idea for his feed which would be best linseed? i heard thats good for condition??

thanks hes a lucky boy but im a special girl to have him :)
