After weeks of proud posts, about how well her breaking was coming along, the last couple of days i have had a spooky, nappy, and generally awkward mare.

Wouldnt leave yard on yesterdays hack, on hack kept turning for home, today napped to school gate, wouldnt go where asked, wouldnt do as told and then spooked and leapt sideways for no apparent reason.

Then she has this funny dry black bit fall off of near her teats?????!!!! Then noticed her winking after having had a wee.....great, she is in season and horrible and im mega stressed.

Well, MARES. Some are like it, some are not. Some can be worked through it, some can't. Sometimes it is the rider/mare combination that don't get on, another person would be fine and that is a hard pill to swallow.
I'd go for a STRESS free amble around a field, lead her in hand on a bridle if you have to.
A long term alternative, is to put her on something like regumate, helps her being 'less hormonal'.
Spring time is often the worst time anyway, and if she is a new breaker then she won't understand the concept of mood swings with being ridden.
Don't get cross with her, you won't achieve anything.
Good luck, keep smiling!

Ah, don't stress, just give her an easy few days til she comes back out of season (they are only really in for 3 - 5 days).
Once she's more established in her work, she won't react so much to her seasons, and you'll get along fine.
In the meantime, take her walkies in hand or do other stuff with her.
S :D

Just remember that for weeks she has been a poppet, she'll be back to being a poppet shortly. Most times are good, the occasional times are frustrating, but overall they're mostly good.

Any idea what the black thing was? she had matching ones either side of the inside of her teats, the one that fell off was hard dry and leatherish.

I know she has been so good, but the napping, spooking and general stupidity has really got to me, i hope it is just as she is in season (charmingly had a wee and stood winking after) and not a set back :(

The black stuff is just a build up of sweat/dirt/manky stuff, the girls equivalent to willy cheese  I was my girls wanny every week and have a quick check of it each time I groom her to make sure there is not any build up. Its perfectly normal. As it gets warmer you may want to just wash it with a sponge each time you ride to keep it clean so it doesn't attract the flys :D perfectly normal, don't worry xx
