My mare is literally a lifesaver & why veterans need a chance)

what a great story. we have a 24 year old gelding and he is the most amazing, forgiving bombproof pony ever. Wont ever set the world alight but has given my daughter so much fun and confidence and a passion for horses that she will never lose. he will always have a little place in my heart...

Ah great story. I bought my mare at 16 and she is now 19. I feel like I can take her anywhere and do anything as she fills me with confidence, even if she is a little madam on occasion, but only when she is showing her personality a bit. People thought I was crazy buying that age, but when I am off out to dressage, fun Rides, the beach, and shows there are definitely a few jealous people watching me go! I wouldn't swap her for the world!

Woop Woop Woop! Three cheers for the Cleveland bay! What a clever girl! :) I can never remember - do you know her breeding?

Well done you! But it is So ressuring to have a sensible horse with you in an emergency situation.. I've always found mine to be pretty level headed when I need it most... and he is only 6.

Lovely story, well done to both of you, and it's good to hear good news about the motorcyclist.

I wish more people would give veterans a chance, so many seem to think that then they buy a horse it MUST be under 10. I have a fabulous Draft mare aged 20, who was bought aged 17 and she truly is worth her (not inconsiderable) weight in gold.

Love, love, love this thread.

What a fabulous horse, what a fortunate motorcyclist, he'll have a learned a valuable lesson about riding the road you see, not riding the road you wish for and more importantly, what fabulous people you and your OH are.

Cheers all round and hope the biker recovers quickly. xx
