Hi

We have a mare who is due to foal anytime. We are unsure on the dates as we purcharded the mare unknowing she was in foal. I have taken her to the vets who said last week after a internal examination she is due to foal anytime. We have been camping at the stables for the past week thinking she is starting to show changes but the foal has not appeared yet. She has wax yesterday but today it is gone. Does Wax sometimes disappear? Could she have rubbed it off whilst lying down? I cannto understand it. She lies down a lot on a night as I have been checking every couple of hours and she is laid down sleeping. She is in the field during the day grazing and have not seen her asleep during the day. The foal has gone quiet, I can still see it moving slightly but not kicking, she has been leaking clear mucus like substance from her vulva. Her back end has dropped, she is rather moody today, yesterday she had milk dripping from one of her udders. Any help and advice on this matter would be much appreciated...

She may want some privacy. Try not to interfere or disturb her too much. She does sound close though.

I am very worried, she has no more wax and her bag has shrunk. i think the foal was moving this morning but I can t be sure. she was goaning all night last night, I went to see her and she was laid out stretching her head. she then rolled, this morning she is showing no signs and is happily eating in her field area.. what are your thoughts, do you think there is a major problem? I intend to leave her this evening and hopefully it is privacy she is waiting for. she is happy in herself soes not sem dipressed...This waiting is worse then having my own babies...!!!)))):o

She's very close, she needs peace and quiet, can you observe from a distance? Try not to worry too much (easy to say :)) remember that a massively high percentage of mares foal without any problems.

Thanks, I hope so..her tummy looks to have dropped today and her back end looks relaxed...might be today... you never know.. gosh I need a full nights sleep!!!

Still no foal she is unable to stand this morning shifting from leg to leg. He back end has unbeleavably dropped. She has milk dripping, would you collect this and freeze it? I think she is nearly there:D

Hi

I think it is coming tonight. I am a little worried though, there is a little tad a blood dripping from her vulva, not a huge amount but a tiny bit.. She is restless and he backend muscles have gone to jelly.. hopefully all with be OK.. sounds like a stuid question but is is usual to have a dribble of blood? I should know having had teo children, but I am absolutly worried there is something wrong.. I will be usless when the grandchildren start to come... :rolleyes:lol

Go make a cup of tea, or go for fish and chips, honestly leave her be and they just do it! As annoying as it is, and as much as you want to be there, they dont really want you till they have done their bit.
Did the waiting a few months ago and its horrid, but you have a super surprise waiting for you!
