My mare worries me when I turn her out. She gets very excited, although she goes out every day. She sets off when let loose bucking and kicking, not at me but you need to get out of the way quick in case. She then generally settles beautifully with her older gelding friend. He keeps out of the way when she is silly! I take out a treat to make her concentrate on that whilst removing controller headcollar that I lead her in but sometimes it is very scarey. Any tips on trying to make things calmer?

No suggestions, but can tell you my 28yr pld does this everyday, and also gallops round the field a warp speed 9! I often let her go before we get to the gateway as it is safer that way. She's always 1st out, and the gate is always open.

Put her out first, before the gelding, so she dosnt feel in such a rush to get out. Always turn the horse towards the gate before letting her go. Lead in a bridle for more control and always wear a hat and gloves.

Do you have a gate (rather than electric tape)? If so then what you need to do is turn her around the gate, you stay on the outside, her on the inside. Turn her so she is facing you, remove headcollar and leave her to her own devices, you are safe out of the way and she can go and play

our wee mare did this, we used to have to unclip her well before we go to the gate and hang onto her headcollar, then just aim and fire when we opened the gate.
We did more or less as weezy described and she soon settled
