Can anyone help me please??

I have recently purchased a mare, she is 7 years old, quite quiet whilst being ridden, hacks out, generaly lazy in the school, never really does anything naughty or silly, just pulls faces and swishes her tail a lot when in the stable, just general moodyness!! But, when i try to mount her, sometimes she cow kicks and doesnt stand still, this is usually when in the school, so i get on at the yard mounting block, she does it there sometimes too, but is easier to get on... not sure if this could be her back... probably going to get that looked at just incase...

Anyway... in the last few days, whilst riding her, she has become very on her toes and being quite naughty, leaping around, etc, quite out of the ordinary...

Yesterday i fell off

she spooked at something really silly, shot forward and done a massive handstand... i completely lost my balance and ended up on the floor!! She is only 15.2 but it still hurt

I then went to get back on at the school mounting block and she done the usual performance of cow kicking at me and not standing still!! Eventually i got back on from the yard mounting block and just walked round a few times.

As i am the biggest wimp in the world, this hasnt done much for my confidence i must say!!

Just wonderd if anyone could give me some advice...??

Thanks,

Sam

Sounds like you need to get her saddle checked, once you have ruled out back pain I think you can be safe to assume she is "trying it on" and you should get to grips with her because she is establishing how much she can get away with!...be sure to get your saddle/her back checked first though

Had the same with my new mare, her saddle didnt fit and it took several weeks to get over pain associated with badly fitted saddle. She was a pain being mounted ,make sure you arent digging your toes in her side as you mount mine cant stand any pressure she is very hormonal.Polos helped as a reward and she doesnt play up with me anymore.I recently had two weeks of hell with her and it turned out to be spring grass and her first season.Thankfully shes much improved and lovely again.

I have a mare exactly like this! If she thinks for a second your nervous or she is the boss she'll ditch u. So i have to be really dominant with her if she even so much as goes to do anything i have to be on her case to move forward and do as i say not what she feels like and we get on great like this - i have seen several other people get on her and she has done literally what she fancied (bucking/napping) cause she knew she could.
It is very difficult if she is making u nervous she is probably now sensing she can have her way. If there is nothing physically wrong with her is there a more experienced rider or instructor that will ride her for you a few times to see if they can stop her acting like that or at least be with you while you are riding to help?
Also i cant stress enough that you should stay calm and dont get angry with her - try to understand why she is doing what she is doing and work with someone experienced to find a solution.
Dont know if thatll help but hope it does x
