My mares hind end dropped down when I lifted her tail to brush it , it was a bit alarming but she recovered straight away and went on happily eating her hay. Rang vets and they said see if she does it again and monitor her . I lift her tail to put it under the fillet strap of her rugs and shes always been fine. Her tail does feel a bit clamped sometimes, feel worried and may get vet anyway ,has anyone any idea why this should happen ?

What you describe is the same reaction I used to get when I washed my oldmare's tail. It was as if the shock of the cold water made her react. It was nothing to worry about.

Thank you both so much for your replies have put my mind at rest as was so worried, she is in season and perhaps i pulled her tail up a bit quick and shocked her ,she certainly seems fine and healthy tonight, phew!
