Hi there, just after some advice really...

My mare Gem is a knabstrupper X TB and was born bright chestnut with a black mane and tail (apparently.. i think she was probably born bright bay with a black mane and tail).. she was passported at 6 month's..

now in her passport it says she'll mature to 16.2 - well she's only 15.1 - she didn't grow at all well bless her and she's also changed hugely in colour - she's got a snowflake/blanket affect and she's quite roan (she's the appy coloured one in my sig)..

what should i do? Obviously she has all the same whirls still but she's lost the star marking she had - it's now spread all over her face.. she's completely different to what she used to be..

any advice welcomed.

No idea tbh but would be interested to see whats advised. I'm a bit ignorant as far as passports go - could you get the vet to check microchip and whirls, to confirm her identity, and then re sketch her?

This must happen quite a lot as they can change colour so much over the first few years

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along soon :o

Many whole colour foals change - blacks become grey / chestnuts become bay et al. If the whorls are in the right place (and that is the finger printing stuff) then you should be OK.

Actually, i've got the vet coming tomorrow to do her jabs - i'll ask him (sorry DUH moment).

She wasn't microchipped when we got her.. we got her microchipped ourselves as we were told many times how lovely she was (by slightly suspect people) and what they'd do to have her in their field...

Dressedkez - your right! That is true :).. didn't think on it like that! Thanks :D

As long as the microchip number matches her, you don't have to do anything. You can get your vet to write a letter to the effect that her coat colour has changed and what it has changed to, then send it off with passport to the issuer, who will probably charge a fee. I was charged £12 for the letter (vet was already at the yard) and £9.95 to change the details.

Hello again, promise I am not stalking you, just spending a lot of time on this forum as off work due to a back op.
Try ringing the passport ageny/society that passport is with, also try posting this in CR as lot of people in there have lots of experience with buying youngsters to be comp horses so need passports to match adult descriptions, just a thought...

When I bought my gelding it said on his passport he was going to mature to 13.1....he's 15h....it also had his mane and tail colour wrong....I rang the passport issuing people and returned the passport for them to change it...I don't think they charged me....but it does look a bit naff with crossed out bits on it! Good job he's a 'nag' and I won't ever want to sell him!!

To be fair I won't ever sell Gem, so not sure if there's any point in having it changed.. I have her microchip number and its all reg to me.. So if she does get stolen (worse case scenario) I can just give the microchip number as proof I own her and that her passport is the passport I have?

:-)

As long as microchip matches, whorls and markings match then I wouldnt worry.

Samba is 15hh (I wish) on her passport, and shes only 14.1hh

If you were to sell her your not going to sell her as 16.2hh so I wouldnt worry

I had the passport form filled out for my girl when she was vetted (she had just come over from Ireland with no passport!!) the vet ticked both bay and chestnut on the form, the passport agency would not taken word for her colouring and the vet when contacted by them said she was bay!! She is actually dark chestnut! I don't worry about it!!

I'd also get a few photos. Worthwhile for any horse to have up to date photos. I get a few full bodies and a face closeup.

I have a horse who has very striking markings, nothing, no whorls, anything is marked on his passport. When I questioned this with the vet I was told that all that matters is the microchip.

I had this issue with a KWPN horse - his drawings did not match him or the verbal description so it really was inaccurate. I chatted to them and sent it off to Holland, they reissued a new passport from the photo's I emailed and put the pages from the old passport in the back and overstamped an explanation for the new issue so it is all now as it should be, they also did not charge for it.

My boys passport says he's chestnut - clearly he is grey with a few flea bites, and he has a big double whirl down his face that's missing from his passport. His is an FEI passport and I've always thought if they didn't care when he was competing internationally then why should I !!

Vinnie is passported as 16.2hh and is over 18hh now...

Millie is passported as 16.2hh and is 15.3hh...

Think most vets plump for 16.2hh as guesstimated height when they are issuing foals with passports.
