my mini is getting winter coat already! is this norm?

As post says really! My mini Shettie doughnut had a beautiful summer coat 2-3 weeks ago and now he is growing again and starting to look like a bear!
Is this normal for mini shetlands?
This is his first summer with me.

Yep all my three are getting their winter coats already.

. They haven't really had a nice summer coat this year took them along time shed their winter coats too.

At this rate i can see myself clipping them in a couple of weeks.

The one we have on loan has started shedding loads of coat. I am going to contact his owner about clipping him as he has a really long mane and sweetitch so he is starting to sweat under his rugs now.

have a bog standard grey pony who never got a nice summer coat, gave him a bath about three weeks ago and it came slightly nice, now it's all falling out and the dreaded yeti is returning! Also have a mule who I had to clip to help illiminate winter, she is a bleedin hairy eejit again now too! think it's something to do with only having had about three days of actual sun!

My friend's Exmoor and my Dales are both growing winter coats on their backs. Still losing the last one off the flanks! Bizarre..

Hi Parsley-yes clip him whenever you like, shetlands only really have a proper summer coat for a month!
