Have been absent this last week after my foal announcement.
At 30 hours old little Grace went down with raging enteritis. The vet believes her Mum probably had the bug and passed it on at birth. Peri, thankfully, had fought it off with no symptoms.
Grace was too ill to move to horspital and given a less than 5% chance of survival. Angela and Brian at Holdenfold stud persuaded the vet to let them nurse her there to give her a chance. On day 2 Vet took blood from Peri and spun it down to get the plasma and gave that to Grace . That stopped the diarrhoea in its tracks but she had also developed a small pneumonia. More fluids and antibiotics and she gradually started to nurse. The next hurdle was to see if her guts would recover or if they have necrosed. Poop finally appeared on Friday, much to everyone's delight. Guts are still not 100% settled but she is now on some wonder thing called Biosponge to sort that.
Brian and Angela have nursed her day and night (I live 160 miles away).
Monday, her temp was normal, cannula is now out and chest is clear.
Vid link attached shows how far we have come. Pic link is to some pics I took on Sunday

Still a way to go before she is completely recovered but she is growing well now and hopefully will be ready to come home in the next few weeks.
I was supposed to be selling this foal, but this little lady is now a keeper.
