Went to Moreton today for me and Rocks first ever affiliated BE intro - so exciting!!
Dressage - warmed up with Mary King *cue stupid look on face* warmed up a bit sticky so was a bit nervous...went in and he did a beautiful test, the best hes ever done for me - and ended up with a score of 34.9!

Showjumping - Now recently Rock has had problems in this phase - hes picked up the habit of out of nowhere, stopping, rearing and spinning on me. However he jumped a gorgeous round with only one down - *cue a face that looked rather like this

XC - I was really looking forward to riding this course - rock is the best XC horse i've sat on and he gives me the best rides. Set off and was having a fabby round.....until....on the flat between fence 8 and 9....Rock decides to have a hissy fit and went from flat out gallop to bolt upright rear, drop shoulder and spin.....*cue me going FLYING out the side door*. Hmph

Got back on and he started rearing again *going through his kevin stage* but I was then overtaken and with another horse in view he was off and had a lovely round after that - jumped everything like it wasnt there.

So there we go - a good day and a bad day. I'm glad hes gotten over his showjumping glitch, but annoyed that hes transferred it on to the xc... Rearing and spinning has always been his trick, he never does it dangerously like hes going to go over, but its his way of trying it on...started off out hacking, then showjumping and now moved on to just galloping along quite happily! Hmph. I'm feeling positive though - i know its attitude and I also know that this year will be the year with lots of tumbles, lots of attitude and lots of incidents - its his rebellious, adolescent year...so its just about persisting and showing him he won't get away with it...hopefully by the end of the year he would have settled down!

Horses!

Hopefully Larkhill on the 5th if i dont get balloted!

He always seems to do it when i get complasent - today i was happily galloping along the straight, admiring the view with the sun on my back and Rock seemed to think he needed to keep me on the ball...hmm...

Oh I know the feeling of horses like that! The ones that are perfect until they think you've switched off a bit! Just wondering - are you absolutely sure his saddle's right? Just if it's a bit tight on the points an xc position will accentuate it? Still, it's a fantastic start. Out of interest I take it you weren't penalised for that fall?

I had the same problem in that i got complacent XC and my boy spooked at a plant

See my report above! It certainly woke me up and made me realise they are not always 100 percent reliable specially if they think you are asleep! I shall be more on the ball at Larkhill

Secondly, I had a horse that used to do that, he had been to intermediate level with my trainer, had had an accident and 2 years off, then was given to me. I started my eventing career with him and for the first 4 years he was amazing, then he started to put in these stops, we'd get to about fence 3 then he'd stop, rear and spin. No amount of head scratching could make us understand why and I was seriously beginning to believe it was my fault. In the end I had help from an event rider who taught me that every time my horse stopped and reared and span away, I immediately had to turn him the opposite direction to the way he wanted to turn. Eventually, I got it out of him but it was near the end of his career, I did get to affiliate him again but he could still be a bit quirky.

I strongly advise you get help NOW, to stop this developing and learn to be one step ahead of your horse.

Thanks for all the fab advice guys

i'm pretty confident i can get this out of him - i've just got to be more on the ball next time and (sounds bad) not trust him for a second at the moment!!

Well thats the thing - i never expected it XC because he loves it, XC and hunting are what he excels in so i was completley not expecting it today! His face when i got up as well - if he was a human he would be pointing and laughing! lol

PS: In reply to Tigerseye - just looked on the results and no they havn't given me any penalties for the fall as it was on the flat...but the 54 time penalties speak for themselves lol!
