(from Tuesday)

Today, I got a neep! It's this big roundish sort of thing that is
yellowish on one side, and purple and white on the other. The Carrot
Lady came to my field when it was warm and sunny, and I was eating hay
with my new friend who is also not very big and who's also very furry.
She gave me an apple this time, which was nice, but I think maybe I
like the pears she has been giving me lately even better.

When we got into the place where I get tied up, she left me there for
a bit, and then came back with the neep! She showed it to me, told me
that it's called a neep, and then when I tried to eat it, just dropped
it in front of me for me where I could reach it.

I'm not sure what I think about the neep, to be honest. It's very very
big, and I couldn't even get the whole thing in my mouth all at once
to bite it in half, and it's really round, so it's hard to bite off
corners like I did with my red square thing, because it doesn't HAVE
any corners. So I scraped bits off with my teeth, and managed to get a
few good larger chunks bitten off too, and they were pretty tasty, and
very crunchy, which I like, but not as tasty as pears.

Then we went for a trot in the woods. That was good, except that we
went in the field where I get to run really really fast, but the
Carrot Lady asked me to walk there instead. So I did that, but I would
rather have run really really fast.

When we got back, I got my neep again, except this time when I tried
to bite it, it rolled! So then the purple-and-white side was up
instead of the yellow side, and that side wasn't as tasty as the
yellow side. The Carrot Lady cut some bits off the neep for me, which
helped, but I'd had enough of a challenge for one day, I think. Maybe
she'll give it to me again tomorrow, and then I may have another go!

Do any of you have advice on coping with a neep?

Dylan says:

Get the Carrot Lady to put it in a bucket for you, then just attack it with your teeth! Although I maybe have a bigger mouth than you, my mum says its "like the Clyde Tunnel", but I don't really know what that means

Hopalong here! :) My favourite plan of attack for neeps (or tumshees as my Mum's pals call them!) is to get them cornered and then you can get big chunks out of the side! :D

I agree though, pears are far better. These tend to be saved for going out to parties though and only when I behave... they're so worth it though! :) Maybe you need to rename Carrot Lady "Neep Heid"?! ;)

Thanks, both of you! So cornering it or having it in a bucket both work out to making sure it can't move, right? (I'm a clever pony; everyone always says so!) I got the neep again, but this time, the Carrot Lady held onto it for a bit, so I could bite some big bits off, and then when she put it down again, it had some corners, so it was easier to eat. I still haven't managed to finish it off, though! It is very big.

H ithere, the young Appy here, the Old Appy told me a story about when the human I own (she was left to me by the Old Appy) put a turnip on a string in her stable. The first one took her a whole day to eat as it kept bouncing away (and bopping her on the nose!) She ate the second one in ten minutes! But never told anyone how she did it, so sadly I cannot pass on any tips as she kept the secret for ever :)

Thank you, Young Appy, I don't feel so silly now! I got told that the black mare with the itchy head can finish a whole neep in five minutes, so I felt a bit stupid. But if your friend took a whole day for the first one, and only 10 minutes for the second one, that suggests that it's a skill I can learn!

My mum must not give me big enough neeps! The last time I got it lasted five minutes, and I thought it was VERY big! Mum came and saw I'd finished it and told me I was a greedy fat pie :)

Dear Spooky,

Put your foot on it to hold it still while you demolish it. This works for me. If you can't hold it still, then try losing your temper and booting the stupid thing against the wall so that it explodes into many pieces. This also works for me.

Love from Ella.

Hi Spooky,
Mum puts mine in my trough for me, and I can pin it against one side whilst I chew at it. Tom just rolls his around his trough cos he likes the noise it makes! My penpal sophie grates hers with her teeth until it turns into mush and then she licks up the mush. Sophie gets lots of neeps as her dad lives in a place where they grow in the fields, but I think I'd rather have grass in my field as sophie says it smells funny.

Don't you jst hate it when they make you walk somewhere when you normally go really really fast?! mum makes me do that sometimes, but I use that as an oportunity to practice my sideways explosion technique. last time i did it I made mum's OH fall off! mum wasn't very impressed though! :o

Wow, that's great advice, everyone! I quite like the idea of maybe kicking it---that sounds really noisy and bold! I don't know if I can be that bold though. I hope I get another one soon, so I can try all this out!
