Just a random questions, my new 5 year old TB who is so quite and genteel sleeps lying down a lot. He comes in during the day and will sleep lying down then get up to say hello and 5 mins later be fly out on the flood again. Any ideas why? He looks relaxed, not in pain or anything just always sleeping? Is it because he is young? Just lazy ?? :)

Ha mine is the same (5yrs kwpn x tb) whenever I go down, whatever time of day, 9 times out of 10 she is flat out asleep! So much so that I can go & lay next to her & all she does is open an eye, see who it is, then goes back to sleep :) I mentioned it to the yard owner who lives onsite & he says he never sees her laid down on an evening or a night, she just likes to sleep in the day ;) I think its a young thing xx

My 6 yr old connie x ISH lies down all the time. I've had him a year and he's just very chilled and likes an easy life. Also he's grown and filled out quite a lot in the last year. They are teenagers at 5/6 and if you know any teenage humans, you'll know they are often quite similar.:p

Haha oh good it's not just him tho. He is generally a lazy horse lol but was worried a little. He is nothing like I thought a young tb would be, he's so sweet :) hope he is just lazy then lol xx

My 2 lie down all the time too. They get up for breakfast, have a bit of grass and then go to sleep in the field. Most days when I arrive they are lying down.

Mine lays down all the time. Mostly morning & often people tell me she's flat out asleep. She's 10 by the way!

I think it must be a young horse thing! my 3 yr old is always sleeping and groaning, I don't worry about him anymore! but if my 28yr old lays down I poop myself, thinking shes got colic!

My new horse is the same. Whenever I go up in the morning she's flat out! At the moment she is living out at night and in during the day. I think she gorges on the grass and is so stuffed she needs a lie down. She's in for a culture shock as the grazing muzzle is going on tomorrow! Will be interested to see if my theory is correct and once she stops binge eating she might not flake out so much!

Ha some great replys thank you... The first time he was flat out snoring I was frantic thinking he had colic... Now I realise he just sleeps almost all day... He looks so fed up when I drag him up lol x

My horse always sleeps lying down, it shows they are relaxed and its really a lot better for them as they get a decent sleep. When the sleep standing up its really just a snooze and not a proper deep sleep!

I saw mine lying down in the field and I thought she was dead! I'd never seen her do that before ( she is on livery) I went up to her and she just looked at me with her beady eye, had to beg her to get up ;)
