My new horse...with pics

Yes, she recovered but a year on you can still see the scars. They are all up her off-side too but the stapled together area on her chest were the worst at the time. The lump under her chest between the forelegs is a heamotoma (sp?) due to the injuries.

Before this happened I had put top rails above the small section of fence that had barbed wire (most of the field was heged). I didn't own the field so I wasn't allowed to take the wire off (they had cows).

She went into the fence, broke the top rail and pulled the fenceposts out of the ground! The wire did not break and if the fence had not come out of the post holes the damage to the horse would have been much worse. The only reason that her legs were ok was that the bottom section of the fence was stock mesh and therefore had no barbs.

Quite frankly if I was you I would move yards. That lower strand of barbed wire would rip through a tendon and that would be it for the horse involved. I know that people have kept horses with barbed wire fences for X amount of years and never had an injury but I just wouldn't risk it. I care too much about my horses and I've seen first hand how it rips through flesh.

Horses and barbed wire do not mix ever!

What a handsome boy. He looks in great condition too, you've done a great job with him since you got him.
