I have recently re-homed a lovely Rough Collie bitch. I work at a dog groomer and she was dumped outside:mad: She was in a total state, her coat was matted solid, her nails were so long and she was covered in poo and pee:( She's quite an old lady we think so not sure how long we'll have her but we just want to give her a nice life for however long that may be.

Was just wondering if anyone else on here has/have had Rough Collies? Pics would be great. Im really starting to fall in love with the breed!:)

We had one when I was growing up. She was the most beautiful and lovely dog in the world. I learnt to stand by holding on to her :o and I used to take her for walks 'by myself' (parents were 20 yards behind) when I was about 3yo.

This is Lucy.

Well done you for taking on this dog, how can someone be so cruel.:D

Imafraid my only knowledge of this breed is the films of Lassie but I do know they were originally bred to herd sheep before they were superceded by border collies. They are beautiful looking dogs.

I'm not a *huge* fan of them but our old neighbours used to keep them, my limited experience is that they are loyal and like to stay home/in their territory rather than roam and are quite aloof/do not engage with strangers.

Glad you can give her a better life and despite not being a big RC person, Lucy does look beautiful :)

Aw poor girl, though sounds as if her luck has suddenly changed. My only experience of Rough Collies is that a friend used to breed and show them, and I once handled her champion dog for her at a show. He was a gorgeous very laid back lad, called Womble, very different to my GSDs , he was perfectly happy to be taken in the ring by me but didn't really relate to me if that makes sense, CCs term aloof suited him well.

Lucy was aloof with strangers but very loving with the family. When my parents brought me home she sniffed me top to toe then lay with me. She would run to get mum if I grumbled and loved curling up with me to watch tv but stayed clear of relatives/friends who came to visit.

My grandad used to breed them "back in the day", we're talking 60's years ago :D
They are gorgeous dogs, I'd love one but all that grooming puts me off :p
Good luck with your new golden oldie :) I can't understand why anyone would abandon a dog :(

No pictures, but my husband had one growing up. Sasha was the runt of the litter, so she looked a bit like a cross between a Collie and a Sheltie. Everyone in his family speaks so fondly of the dog, and she was gentle and sweet with all.
