I think that those left picking up the pieces after cruelty should be allowed to do whatever to the perpetrator whatever they have done to the animal. In this case, I'd love to wrap his leg in barbed wire, tear up his feet, get some nylon to eat into his face and then leave him in a bare field for weeks and weeks... and then send him to the factory.

Although hopefully there'll be a happier ending for this girl. She and her 2yo son (who has a huge hernia) are now tucked up warm being nursed, cared for, cuddled and fed in stables. The wee fella is just gorgeous - was completely wild and unhandled just a few days ago but now already loves being groomed and fussed over. Just hope he finds a good home and doesn't end up factory-bound (bred for racing but has extremely long pasterns) :(

You can't quite see just how much proud flesh there is in these pics - and this is the wound starting to look a little cleaner (after nearly a week of care), and also this is AFTER her feet were tended to - they hadn't been done for months and months, possibly years. Poor poor girl, she was in so much pain but she's starting to look a bit brighter and this morning managed to limp across the stable to say hello when I gave her some hay.

She's lovely - they both are. So kind and gentle despite all they've been through. It's heartbreaking, what some people can do to animals :(

YM was in tears when they were brought down. And we were all crying buckets the morning after when we arrived to find she was still alive - she was in such poor condition, was sweating and shaking, running such a high temperature and in so much pain we were half expecting the infection to have got her and to arrive to find a dead mare. But she's getting stronger so fingers crossed for her. At least there's a couple of people offered to take her. Poor 2yo isn't as lucky though... if I had the money I'd keep him as he is such a super boy - very handsome apart from his pasterns - who loves fuss and attention... but I just can't afford another one :( Hopefully someone'll fall in love and take him on.

Thank god for YM and YO's charity and care, they've definitely saved these horses from a horrific end, whatever happens now at least the poor wee things will have had a while of proper care and attention. They have to battle it out with the owner over the vet's/farrier's bills as well. If we can't get enough money out of him, they and a few of us liveries have agreed that we'll pool together to continue her treatment :)

i know where i would like the wrap the wire then twist like a tourniquet

pretty mare nasty wound but lot of tlc should heel up nicely though might have white hair over it

good on u guys taking her under u wings

Good grief, some people......

Good on you and others for taking them on, I hope they continue to improve and have a happy ending. Poor things, don;t know how they are coping with having poo in their stable........

Ah right - no, these two are actually skipped out twice a day since they're not going out. I think it looks bad in the photos because she doesn't/can't yet move much in the stable so all her crap and pee is pretty much in the one place. :(
