:( After riding for 15 years now, I'm finally in a postion where I can afford my own horse and have my time, financially I am stable with everything else too. So a few months ago I began looking at horses to loan as I don't want to get in to something and find out I can't support a horse financially (even though I have done the budget 7 times now and it all turns out I can) as I don't want anything negative for the horse.

Anyways, to make a longer story short, I had a few owners contact me but nothing has been quite right unfortunatly. Until I found a nice horse, she was for long term loan with a view to buy. She's beautiful, at the right age and has gorgeous paces. But then she didn't want a horse moving to another yard on loan (fully understandable), but couldn't get the horse out of my mind as silly as it sounds.

So for the last few days ever so subtly my OH as been saying he'd contribute any amount of money that is needed alongside mine just to ease worry off me. :D He said it seriously to me tonight "all you have to do is say yes and we'll go and look next week and decide fully".

But I never said I would buy one!

:( Im so tempted.

I'm tempted very heavily. And trust me think I got lucky, I got him on a horse once, a private lesson and within half an hour (first time on a horse), he'd managed to get her in a nice outline, total control was down to him and she was on the bit. I was shocked!
I went looking for a loan, and haven't looked at buying any other horse (browsed ads every so often but done that since I was little :D), its just that horse that I'd like.

It's a no brainer! You can afford to keep her, since you worked it out immesurable times, lovely OH is helping, you said you think she is beautiful....what are you waiting for?? :-D

Imagine if u got a horse on loan, loved it, and the owner then wanted it back??? How would u feel??? ........ Go for it!!!

Just go for it! you can keep it financially and your OH seems he would help you out in any situation.
Make sure you get a good look at her and ride of her and the vetting done.
Good luck :D

Kovu, do it! It's terrifying... I've had Darco for 1 week now LOL :D :D :D and I was like you, I did the budget that many times, I nearly talked myself out of it!! :D Go on... You know you should!!!!

Thats whats always worried me about loaning. A girl on our yard had one on loan once, it was in abit of a state when she took it on (owner had more or less lost interest and mare was living out doing nothing and getting a few bad manners etc) the girl that took it on loan put alot of time, money and effort in to get her right and as soon as she did her owner miraculously wanted her back!

Don't get me wrong though we still have one of my first ponies and she is out on loan and has been for the past 7 years and we would never just take her back out of the blue, I think its just the chance you take and if you find the right person/horse.

The problem with tying yourself up like this is that you are restricting what possible horse you could get as you only have the loan with view to buy horses available. If you bite the bullet and decide to buy there are a whole lot more horses available to choose from. But if you are worried about commiting yourself to buying, have you looked at places such as bluecross, rspca, whw, that loan their horses out, but you can return the animal if your situation changes?? Just an option to think on.

Not sure what type of horse you want but if you fancy n ex racer try darley rescue. First place I will go when looking to own.

Thanks everyone! I think I may ring and go and see the horse again on monday and take it from there.

It's not buying that I really thought about, it really is just this horse that I think I'd like. No other horse has "popped" out like this one has. She fits everything I wanted in a horse, no other one has. Just lucky I have the OH just in case anything goes wrong.

Update we are off to see her on Tuesday now definatly!! Although someone is seeing her Monday, so with a wing and a prayer :/
