My girls (one leopard appaloosa + one TB) were due to go to an appaloosa stallion on 16th May. Appy was DNA tested and both swabbed ready and was eagerly awaiting the outcome - hoping to get one show or breeding appy and one eventing appy from my fab TB.
..... Disaster has struck ....
The stallion I was using (Mr Peg) had a testicular torsion and has been gelded today. I feel sorry for the stud as it was a very worrying time but also GUTTED for myself and my plans. My appy mare is only on loan so need to get her covered this year.
There is only one other appy stallion in East Anglia I know of who is Poke-A-Dot (but I am confused as it also says he is hanovarian & can be weatherbys registered too ??) He is more expensive too and the only person I know who has used ***** Stud had their mare there for weeks and it came back empty.
So unsure what to do? I would consider another type of stallion on my TB but I wouldnt know what other type of stallion to use on an Appaloosa mare???
I want LIVE covering within 70 miles of Stansted Airport area. I also had a brilliant deal of only £200 per mare with Mr Peg and most stallions seem to be much more. Any ideas.

There is a spotty stallion who SJ's at Keysoe, owned I think by Bob Gale, he is about 16/16.2 and seems to have a great temp, you certainly wouldn't know he was a stallion at a jumping show apart from the stallion disc and ribbons. Think he lives in Cambs

Here you are Details contact: Bob Gale

I am curious why you want a natural covering, why are you not satisfied with AI ? Wouldn't this make things easier for you, as you can choose a stallion from anywhere in the UK.

I agree that this stallion was very cheap, was that part of the reason ?

Thanks SO much you two. Thistle you have made my day!! I have just had a long conversation with Bob Gale who is sending me out the information. His stallion is much BETTER than the original one I had planned to use and even nearer too. Not sure how much he is going to charge but even if I have just the appy covered it will be something.
I feel so much better now and looking forward to receiving his stud card. Without this forum I couldnt have found out as he doesnt advertise.
xx

I've met the stallion quite a few times. The first time I met him B and Floss (in season) shared a jump clinic with him (no disc or ribbons), it was half way through when Bob said something about his foals that I realised he was a stallion, since then I have seen him out and about quite a bit. He has a great front leg tecgnique and makes a lovely shape over a fence. bob comes across as a real old fashioned horseman. The stallion is a bit of an allrounder. Bob has beeb breeding Appys for years.

Rodega Zadoc is a lovely boy, he has been shown (under saddle) at our National Breed shows (ApHC UK) so I have seen him in action. The Gales are lovely people I am sure they will look after your needs.
They also do advertise with the two Appaloosa Breed Societies (newsletters).

You can put the appaloosa mare to a thoroughbred, a quarter horse or an arab and still have a registerable foal (if the mare is registered) because these three are permitted outcrosses with the ApHC (UK and USA) but not with BAPS. Perhaps we have already had this conversation cos I get a feeling that I am repeating myself, sorry (age!).

Good luck with Zadoc.

Outcross to Thoroughbred, Arab or Quarter Horse are now registable with BApS in the Annex register. Colts, fillys and geldings, as i registered one last year and hopefully will have one later this year to register too. If you breed an Annex reg horse to a main reg purebred Appaloosa then the resulting foal will be a purebred.

Thank you very much Whirlwind for the update. I am a BAPS member and my stallion is licensed with them (so I really should know these things!!) but am more 'into' the ApHC UK where I am involved with the day to day running of the club and editing their newsletter. :)
