I'm sorry "Tia" please could you emplain (explain? perhaps)yourself. I don't understand your code writing, (a full stop surely instead of your comma?) Just incase you are confused I speak ENGLISH. Are you sure?

Let me know when you can write in full sentences (full stop perhaps?)

Thanks Creature

I hope you don't mind but I have taken the liberty of correcting some of your grammatical errors.

Which part of my post do you not understand Scrappy? The pmsl means "pee my self laughing". The quote marks are " and ". What else could you not understand?

Oh, because THAT's soooo polite. You know... if you're going to have a go at someone for being rude, you probably try to set the moral highground.
I think it was lovely of Tia to help you with your spelling and punctuation. Don't you?

OH MY GOD. I am amazed at how nasty people have got about this. When reading sarahgemas post i didnt get the feeling she was being neglectful towards her horse. I feel that certain people have been quite insensitive when trying to portray their opinions.

Sorry maybe i am under an illusion but i thought this forum was for people with horses to chat and ask others opinions and ideas on things. When i joined this forum i did not realise that i would be chatting with BULLIES.

Maybe "lankydoodle", "poppymoo", "mairi" are just a selected few that decide to gang up on people. As far as i am concerned i think these rude creatures were reading something different to me as all i thought when reading the post was that sarahgema felt guilty as the two horses had been ok for two days then she thought there would be nothing to worry aboput as most people would have.

The fact she asked people to check them to me says that she is knowledgable and does care for her horses i think that the three people i mentioned earlier should maybe keep there opinions to themselves if they can not voice them politely.

Everyone is intitled to an opinion but only certain people have the brain cells to get them over in a way not to hurt feelings.

Hope figo is better now sarahgema and hope these neanderthals have not put you off using the forum.

OMFG, scrape me of the floor please. I got a mention. From a troll. I've finally made it.

I have my own mind, thanks; and I, therefore, accept that others will have varying opinions which differ from my own. This does not make them bullies.

A number of people here saying that a vet is necessary in cases where a horse is in so much pain it cannot bear weight on that leg, is not bullying. Suggesting that maybe x-rays are needed rather than x-ray vision/hocus pokery/stabs in the dark, is not bullying.

Oh, and I don't for the life of me know why you have put my name inside quotation marks. LankyDoodle is my real name.

HAHAHA

This thread reminds me SO MUCH of a comment from my vet today (routine vaccs). Apparently he *much* prefers dealing with farmers, because "bloody wimpy useless horse women" jump out of their skin and practically call 999 every time their horse coughs.

If a cow gets an injury, the farmer deals with it, reevaluates in the morning (as does my uncle - a consultant surgeon, by the way!). As the OP did.

She showed insight, common sense, and most importantly, didn't waste a vets time at a critical time (during the night) when they are already busy with foalings, colics, and other EMERGENCIES.

The horse didn't die over night, did it? It wasn't lying down, sweating. It ate.

Honestly.

Interesting point of view from your vet as I would say that "bloody wimpy useless horse women" are the life blood of all veterinary practices, and line their pockets most handsomely!

Anyway, bottom line is that the pony would appear to be fine - certainly the description given in the OP made it sound, actually, as if it was emergency - so perhaps the condition was somewhat exagerated.

And I do think it's important to remember that a phone call to a vet costs nothing (relatively speaking). And provided symptoms are described accurately the vet is then in a position to decide whether what the worried owner is describing is an emergency, or can wait for a visit during normal hours.

I don't know any vet that would begrudge that............

Farmers don't call the vet out more often beause they are running a business and often can't afford to. As a result a more common outcome with farm animals is that the farm animal dies before it is seen by a vet. Have you ever heard the term, no foot no horse?

IME the re-evaluation is often "Is it still alive" - horsey people often try to prevent getting to the point where this becomes a genuine question

I don't know what time the incident happened, but I would call a potentially broken leg the same level of emergency as a colic

The horse didn't die over night, did it? It wasn't lying down, sweating. It ate.

I can't comment on the OP's actions with her own horse, only what my actions would have been given the symptoms. I would have calling a vet out immediately.

Honestly.

. I do believe its time to open a new 'capital' for the SG group. The Common room is much too advanced in many ways so maybe Admin could open up the 'Kintergarden'-it could be activated on end of term, summer break and by special request.............measles and mumps outbreaks and Ash Wednesday

"Bullying"???? Get a life. The "bullies" / "creatures" (haha) were concerned for the animals welfare, as i feel most people would when those symptoms were described. Whether they were described accurately or not is another matter.

If my horse felt the need to rest it's head on my shoulder and could not put any weight on the leg and was grunting as it tried to move on 3 legs to a stable... i think i would at least pick up the phone to ask a vets opinion, which i am sure would be to check it out. You were lucky, as others have said. Hope there isn't any lasting damage.
