My pony is going bald on his armpits

My old horse had wrinkly armpits and if she sweated and all of it wasn't washed off she seemed to have a little rash or an unhairy patch.. I used to put sudocrem on them after she'd been washed and dried to soothe them which worked quite well.
Wouldn't have thought it was anything to worry about. Wonder gel which comes in a blue bottle is good for hair regrowth or just good old vaseline!

Does he have /did he have long hair there? Might be it gets caught in the girth and ripped out? Or if you ride with tucked-in toes it might be you rubbing it away?

Sophie1107 - I dont work my pony hard enough to get sweaty

On the odd occasion that I do i always wash him down with a wet sponge afterwards.

ali_m - Its not his girth as its really in the armpits, not really where girth or my foot goes as its underneath in his armpits rather than at the side.

I may try using some vaseline. I have in-hand showing qualifiers in a few weeks. I hope they dont mark me down for bare armpits

Could just be that he is maulting in odd patches, my filly is - it looks bare compared to the rest of her mammoth coat but really the hair is just shorter and finer.

Im having the same prob with my TB who is just coming into work from a break her armpits are completley bald she looks odd with them as shes dark bay but the hair is starting to grow back so dont worry.

snap with the chestnut welshie. Frank looses his at this time of year as the hair goes a bit soft while he is moulting. Its not where his girth goes more on the point of his elbows, is that where dougs is. He gets these cos his girth groove is quite forward and so although its nowhere near his girth as he moves and swings his legs back it rubs enough to rub the hair out, particularly at coat changing time, spring or autumn. He has a double elastic atherstone girth with a nuumed fleece to try and help it and has a posh wavy girth on the way which I hope is goin to sit further back.

Have found naf MSM cream to be quite good at getting the hair to grow back.
It normally grows back fine I have found
