Can any one help me try to stop my pony coughing, we have tryed soaked hay, hayleigh, naf naf stop cough. She only seems to cough when she is being riden, and she seems to have a sore throat... should i call the vet yet or try some thing else on the market. I don't think she has C.O.P.D and it's not being kept in the stable as even when she is turn out she seems to keep coughing every now and then, but it's still there, she is only 6/7... I brought her late last year and we rode her a good few times on 3/4 visits before we bought her, and she did not cough once around the school out on a hack and we had a stage 2 vetting.....nothing picked up by the vet.

How long has she been coughing for? Are there any other symptoms - nasal discharge, heave line on abdomen, etc?

I would certainly get the vet in. A lot of horses on our yard are coughing at the moment, and I think it's a mixture of dusty hay and tree pollens. My horse, certainly, gets a sort of 'hay fever' at various times in the spring and summer, depending on the pollens around.

Mine's coughing a bit too. Have started soaking her hay and that's made it better. Must be something in the air/hay!

My lad has been coughing for nearly 2 months now, i gave him a jab of dex and another course of antibiotics this week just to be on the safe side, but the vet said something about a bad year for hay and spores causing allergies, and loads of horses are coughing, and to stay off hay and feed haylege..mine is still coughing out 24/7 now, seems a bit better tho after the jab of anti inflamatory..

One of mine did this last year - mostly when ridden, so got vet out and he had an upper resp track infection, a week on antibiotics and he was fine, the vet sed could be change in temp and getting a slight chill that did it.

Hope he gets better soon for you.
