My poor dog, bless her has just been rushed to richmond animal hospital with what could be liver faliure or kidney faliure

Went to one vet on friday who told me she was being a fussy eater and come back in the new year if she is not any better...basically i was her last appointment of the day and she really could not be bothered to help.

So Over the wekend I have watched conker go down hill, not eating and no life in her.

Rushed her off to Oxted vets (was ingrams) they did her bloods and rang us with the results straight away, something this other bloody vets never in thought of doing and they have rushed her on a fluid drip to their animal hospital for 24 re-hydration therapy and to have everything flushed through.

Have to wait now until tomorrow to see what happens next ie a scan or she can come home.

I rang the OTHER vets and have started a formal complaint procedure against the vet and will be looking to take it even further if I end up with a dog that has to be put down due to the incompatence of one useless vet.

Sorry for the rant but how can these poeple call themselves vets when they mess up so badly.

I have spoken to loads of poeple who have had major problems with this practice before.

Its touch and go at the mo

poor thing hope she gets better soon. dont blame yo taking it further with the vets at the end of the day they havent done there job right big hugs

If she has uremia she should be a lot better after having her kidneys flushed. It is the sort of thing that is likely to recur though and she will need a special diet. Our dog had kidney failure at the age of 13. She had them flushed and had another 6 months of life, but the next time it happened we let her go. It was enough time to say a proper goodbye, but to be brutally honest we might have done better to let her go the first time, it's just so hard with a dog you love so much.

How old is your dog? If she's young you may have a better prognosis and a more successful maintenance strategy.

We had to have her put to sleep this morning.

I really feel for you. My cat was given a massive overdose of drug by our vets and we found out and we moved her to another vets and when we asked for her history./notes they had tried to alter them......and the cat died at the new vets of the overdose not of the original condition.

Our dog had injection for a wound and then a couple of weeks later had a lump, took him to vets, they said would need to do general anasthetic to do biopsy. Was only when husband rushed in having spoken to a friend who is an equine vet who told him it was likely a reaction to the injection and not a tumour and shouted at them to look at their own notes of his recent treatment that he was saved from a totally unnecessary GA.

Vets are great but can do harm as well as good if theyre lulled into complacency or making assumptions or being lazy. We've become quite assertive, I used to tell OH not to be so inquisatorial with the vet, after the above 2 I dont any more ....

Mistakes can happen but it makes the loss much worse to bear.
