My Poor Horse

I've got broken ribs myself at the moment and I could well believe it could cause those symptoms, I have never known pain like it in my life. Particularly the first 6 hours. Hope he makes a good recovery, poor lad.

Thanks every body I am just calming down I have survived the week on adrenaline and biscuits.
I just want that ultrasound to confirm this diagnoses as although it's not good , it could be much worse.
At least he will survive .
What I have not posted yet is that his field friend H has got a throughpin we noticed it on Saturday am but I think there's every chance we missed it on Friday as the other horses just got flung back into the fields while we dealt with C .
It's been drained and injected and he's on box rest .
What did they get up to ?
Perhaps as another poster suggested they collided H is a very square ID the vet said stopping fast is the likely cause of his injury perhaps he ran into C .
They are very calm in the field, it's a good pairing .
C was not used to friends and living out when I bought him perhaps it was a mistake to change his lifestyle but I wanted him to have some the things he had missed out on in his life on pro yards .
Heavens knows what I will do about turnout after this .

I hope that he's more comfortable now. It's never easy having animals. You can't start thinking it was your fault, you can't prevent all accidents.

Sending best wishes for the following weeks and that he makes a good recovery.

Poor horse. i hope he picks up soon. The ramp thing sounds horrible, I hope you have recovered .

They always find new inventive ways to break themselves, and our hearts in the process:(
It seems so sad that he was so unused to fields and friends. I suppose any horse could have had that accident- mine who have lived out all their lives do PLENTY of sudden stops! - but of course now you look to find a reason, a way to prevent recurrence. 24 hour stabling starts to look attractive:(
Wishing him a speedy recovery. At least he now has you. Dread to think what his outcome may have been in his previous life.

Balthazar King went on to recover well from his broken ribs (+punctured lung) sustained in the 2015 Grand National. IIRC, he was knocked down by another runner, rather than falling, so an horse on horse collision could well account for C's injuries.

Blimmin' horses. They can't be wrapped up in cotton wool all the time. Hope you soon get news that C is well on the road to recovery. Vibes for a swift recovery for H, too.

Oh my. Hope the initial diagnosis is confirmed on Monday (at least in as much nothing worse is found), and that both recover with no complications.

Horses - they give us so much, but oh do they cause us such worry.

His previous owner would have looked after him ,he still has an old four star horse on his place and another advanced one .
I am sure he would not have cast C a drift .
And of course it would not have happened because he would have been in the field in dark with another horse .

Oh my goodness, you must have been beside yourself.

I'm so glad you have a diagnosis now. Fingers crossed for a full recovery. I have no doubt that if anyone can nurse him through this, you can.

Best wishes.

xx

I am supposed to be decorating I can't settle to anything I can't go and see him because of the bone scan he can't be handled before tonight .
It's three hours away .
I haven't heard when they will be doing the ultrasound I suppose it will be Monday I am going to get the lorry ready later just in case they do it tomorrow .
My groom will get his box ready in the morning we are going to move everyone round so he has J's big box by the tack room it's a sociable stable ,he might not like that ,if he doesn't he can go down to big quiet box on the bottom yard .
I will see what he prefers .
We have three tiny grass squares ready to go and it's rained so they are nice and soft
for him.
I wish it was Monday .

Only just seen this.

I do hope that he makes a speedy, full recovery, it sounds as if he should do so. Please don't start second guessing yourself, I bet C has thoroughly enjoyed his time with you and is desperate to get back home to the grass. We can't and IMO shouldn't try to wrap them up in cotton wool, tempting though it might be sometimes.
