Got my poor pony in from the field this morning and she looked fine! Led her in and put her in her stable to wait for the dentist. When I came out and put her head collar on I noticed this on her face...

I didn't see it an hour earlier when I led her in so assumed she did it in the stable in the last hour although my stables are safe so not sure how.

Anyhoooo, after the dentist left I went to give her a good check over and was really shocked to find out that she is covered in scars that definatly werten't there last night.

All these pictures are of different cuts. They are on the inside and outside of both hind legs

And this one looks very sore and swollen

Thing is I have no idea what she has done! Makes me feel like a very bad mummy [:t]

Looks like she has become tangled in something. All look like superficial injuries; they wouldn't worry me a whole lot.

I'm not worried about them, just worried about how she did them. Have checked the field and there is nothing she could have hurt herself on. She is only kept with one other horse and they get on very well and I have never seen them being aggressive towards each other.

I didn't notice them originaly as they are all on the inside of the hind legs.

It does look as though she has gotten tangled up in some wire or something. What sort of fencing do you have? Is there anything at all in the field? It's surprising what they can hurt themselves on - my TB mare is always doing stuff like that and I virtually wrap her in cotton wool!

hey,
try not to worry too much - I would put lots of wound powder on them and see how you get on.
My horse is so clumsy that when ever I lead him into the stable he has a new scar on him from walking around the field..! I took his fly sheet off once and he had taken half the skin off the side of his withers - it was just hanging there and I was in total shock...dont know how he did it...then went down the following week to find a huge lump on his leg!! Ekk....
does look like maybe she has got herself tangled in something...the inside marks look like maybe loose barbed wire..?

Have you got any saplings that she might've climbed over to rub an itchy belly? My Shetland does this. Walks over the top of a small tree slowly, so his tum gets a rub!

Wouldn't be all that worried unless they appear bruised and sore.
