My poor little girl is not happy

Poor Ruby - it's toough being 3yrs old. She is not a happy girl, moving very cautiously today. She is seriously in season and the vet says that she could have a very large folicle that is making her feel so uncomfortable. The vets given me some bute to give her for the next five days.

The geldings in the paddock across the drive only have to glance her way and she pees.

She really is miserable - any mare owners on H&H heard of this before? Its early spring here in New Zealand and this is the first time I've noticed her in season.
 
From what I can gather from reading stuff on Google follicles can grow very big just prior to ovulation. This can cause both behavioural and physical problems which causes an amount off discomfort.
 
Update on Ruby - this morning she is much more like her normal self - yelled out to me as I drove in the gate and came over to the gate to get her feed laced with Bute.

What a godsend peppermints are - She loves them so I crushed 4 big fat mints and put them in the sugarbeet along with the bute, wolfed down in minutes.

Sometimes I'm not too fond of mares - she stinks!! Thankfully not so in season today. I smell a bath in the next few days.
 
Yes my little girl goes lame when in season and the week leading up to it. She pushes her bum into the wall, struggles to wee, short striding behind and footy in front. I paid for a scan to be done which was clear thankfully so now going to explore supplements. the vet alternatives Here are marbles and regumate.

I also finds it gets easier as the season goes on
 
well if i ever become prime minister is will be on the band substance list including pink and milk

just the thought of the smell..............................:(

This evening she was much better and bouncing around - more like her old self.

I've never had anything like this before - what sort of supplements are you looking at?

If this is what she is going to be like each time then definately we will need to look at some treatment. Either the marble - how do they get that back out again though - anyone any idea? or Regumate.
