Now this is quite sad really bless her, my lovely mare shes 21 now, connemara X draught, shes been a showjumper all her life, one day around 2 years ago was out hacking with her and she just tripped she has been lame ever since, weve had everything possible by the vet (apart from the megabucks methods) lol however she has had a steroid injection in the bone which as far as most people are concerned thats the last resort, shes had hundreds of nerve blocks everything! Nothing has worked even x rays. So basically is what Im asking really is does anyone know of anything (natural or medicated) that may be able to help my poor little mare, I dont want her to have to work again but maybe just so shes not lame anymore. She has danalon everyday.

What is it you're asking? Are you asking if we can figure out what's wrong with her? Or are you asking for suggestions to treat the lameness/pain?

What 'megabucks methods' didn't you have done? Why so many nerve blocks? What was the steroid injection to do, as in what had been diagnosed at that point?
 
Bless her - it is nice she has a home for life. Is she sound on the Danilon? If not then I think maybe a hard decision is needed. If she is comfy on Danilon then I would carry on and allow her to retire in comfort. If she is not paddock sound on Danilon then personally I would probably call it a day after taking with the vet. 21 is not very old but if she is in pain then it is not really fair to leave her. I have a 26 year old connie x mare and she is stiff but potters round her field happily. It is hard as they get older and they often are not able to tell us how much things hurt. If she is a big horse then she may just need a higher dose of painkiller. Have you tried a joint suppliment?

I had different nerve blocks in different areas of the leg.
Its the last resort to any injuries anround the tendon or fetlock joint.
Obviously it hasnt been diagnosed otherwise I would know and I wouldnt be asking lol.

Vet says she is not in pain and she never tries to walk slow etc. She never acts sad etc always being naughty!!
Well Ive tried "no beut" and shes also on a glucosamine joint powder, nothing seems to work, I guess I was just hoping someone may have something theyve used thats amazing lol. But shes loved so shes happy at the minute, but I agree I would never have her in any pain, thank you

It wasn't clear from your post what the situation is. What does your vet think it is/might be? Does your vet think the procedures that haven't been done would show up whatever is wrong? And what are those procedures?

Two years is a long time to have an undiagnosed lameness

. I know the stress, although ours was about eight months of on/off lameness: I sent her to the AHT for a full work up as not knowing was driving me nuts.
 
I did say what I wanted to know.
No the vet hasnt found out what is wrong with her weve had 2 different vets out.
They thought it was something to do with her tendon to start with but the nerve blocks didnt show anything up.
There are so many different muscles around the tendon and fetlock it could just be one of them.

By the sounds of things I think it will be a soft tissue injury in the pastern/foot.

Horses don't limp for no reason, they do it because they are in pain 95% of the time, mechanical lameness is normally more easily diagnosed. So the nerve blocks showed nothing? Is she insured?
 
Is she insured? It's a bit difficult to suggest what would make her more comfortable without really knowing what the actual problem is.

If nothing was picked up on X-ray, like KatB says it's likely to be soft tissue, ligament in foot, which you would need to MRI for.
 
There are muscles and ligaments in that area, shes not hoping lame.
No different on bute, and danalon is better for her than bute. Yes shes insured bet they wont insure her for all of that as shes a veteran. Already tried all of this lol.
They said about an MRI scan however they may find out what is actually wrong with her but the chances of actually fixing it is rather low and if they could it will be very very expensive as they have tried and tested eveything that normally happens and that they treat for.
I have had 2 different vets both said she cannot be in pain, she would run around the way she does if she was hurting, and she is on danalon and powder for that.
 
Poor girl, yes an MRI is extremely expensive and most insurance companies only cover half the cost anyway.

Must admit, if x-rays show nothing I would think it is soft tissue damage, you could look for a supplement with MSM in it, MSM treats soft tissue whilst Glucosomine treats bony injuries, however, your vet is the one who is best to advise you.

One thing you could try is magnetic boots, I use them on an oldy at night and they really do seem to help her.

Fair enough re. the insurance, was only thinking as some insurance companies will pay for MRI...

If she is better on Danilon/bute then it is pain related, sorry! But pleased Danilon is making some difference. Would echo magnetic therapy can help.
 
Yes if she didnt have the danilon then yes she would be in pain! Thanks but I can see if she is struggling etc. I have tried insurance companies and they wont for her. Im not totally stupid I have tried the most obvious things lol. In fact pretty much everything.
 
what about trying equi-elements, its new on the market, i have not tried it or know of anyone who has but it might be worth a look and see what you think.
Bless horses they do like to make us worry
 
there has to be muscles in the lower leg that are attached to the bone by tendons which enable the lower leg to flex and extend otherwise it wouldnt move.

Global herbs bute-x (i think might now be alpha-bute) is supposed to be good and doesnt contain Devils claw.

My boy is on cortaflex for arthritis and stifle damage involving ligaments and his meniscus.
