My poor coloured mare is not doing so well.
She's been at stud for the past few weeks and was AI'd over the weekend so all we were waiting for was the 16 day scan. I get a phone call today to say she's been kicked and although didn't think was too serious, could they get vet to check her out. Loh and behold that whilst on the outside it just looked like a cut it turns out that she's shattered her splint bone into 6 pieces!!
Gone to the vet hospital today and is being operated on tomorrow as have got to take all the pieces out before they become infected. Poor girl though...fingers crossed she comes through OK, not to mention that she manages to hang onto her foal or she'll have to go through the whole rigamarole again.
To make it worse for her, she had 3 months box rest this winter due to damaging her check ligament, hence was having a year off and a baby, and now gets to look forward to months of box rest again!!
