Korben has just had surgery on his leg for a luxating patella - we collected him from the vets this morning - surgery went well but he has a long road ahead of him recovery wise. He is on totally restricted movement for a month - we have a 6' x 2.5' back hall leading to our back door where he normally sleeps at night and we have effectively "baby gated" him there to minimise his movements while he heals. He can still see us and talk to us and we can keep a close eye on him - he also has direct access to the back garden meaning distance walked for the toilet is minimal.. He has 15 staples on his leg and his hind leg looks like a chicken drumstick cause they shaved all his hair off. He has pretty much slept since we brought him home - was fun and games trying to get a 5 stone dog on 3 legs in the car but we managed it - havent driven that slow since the kids were babies :D

Anyway here he is, looking all sorry for himself. I'm worried about keeping him occupied - he already ate through my kitchen door from boredom when he wasnt allowed walkies :(

Thanks guys - hes pretty much slept since he came home but he ate something which is a good sign and yeah slinky, fingers crossed I will have a house left :D

poor little chap! To keep my pooch entertained I stuff her kong full of dog food out of a tin then freeze it - keeps her busy for much longer :)

Poor boy :( you have my sympathy, trying to keep dogs still and quiet is much worse than having a horse on box rest!

And I'm sorry.... but I did have a little chuckle at his shaved bit, his coat being so thick makes it look worse :D:o

haha yeah he looks ridiculous - his coat is so thick that the second vet we saw assumed he was very overweight - he was surprised when he actually examined him to find it was mostly fluff he was seeing :D

Aw poor lad, he does look sorry for himself. I agree with the frozen stuffed kongs, fish4 dogs salmon mousse is a good kong stuffer or alternatively some big knuckle bones.

poor boy!!!!! kongs are a great idea and how about the dog puzzles, if you look on pet planet they sell some, they are not cheap but give them something to work out and keep their minds occupied... good luck with him...

Just a wee update - he got a check up on Monday and vet said his leg was looking fantastic - he got his staple out tonight and got his collar off too - he went nuts rubbing his neck and head on pretty much anything and everything including the kids :D He is putting weight on his bad leg more and more but is still on very restricted movement so still in puppy jail in the back hall with the baby gate up - we got no sleep for the first 3 nights cause he was very unsettled but he is settling now. People keep saying he has a poodle leg :D

Cinnamontoast his other leg is absolutely fine - they reckon its the result of an injury - he pulled a muscle last June while playing with my OH and vet says that would be enough to cause an initial pop of the knee which has then went back in immediately but could have started the whole problem - they also tightened his ligament on one side to prevent it as well as deepening the knee groove
