So I'm posting this as my poor pup is feeling rather sorry for himself....
I have a 4 year old German shorthaired pointer called Finn. I take him to the yard with me all the time which he loves running about the estate and around the XC course.
Anyway, today he ran off towards the water complex as normal (he loves water) the next thing I hear a splash and Finn is crying his head off (that awful mum I'm in pain cry) and he comes scrabbling out of the water on three legs, holding his left front paw!
I ran over to comfort him, when he's hurt himself he's usually fine after a minute, but this time he refused to put any weight on his paw at all, so much so I had to carry him the 500m back to the yard!! (He weighs 27kg!)
So I thought we're still in working hours so I would get him checked by the vet. I had a closer look at his paw, and one of his toes was sticking at a funny angle and there was blood under his paw
Anyway long story short, the vet thinks he has an open fracture but needs to go into the vets tomorrow morning for X-rays/examination under sedation (he was v sore so wouldn't let her look in his paw properly)
Shes also given me some antibiotics and pain killers.
Poor mite. He's feeling rather sorry for himself and still won't put any weight on it. I also let him out a few mins ago for a wee and his foot reopened and bled all over the kitchen floor. So he now has a dressing and a bit of vet wrap over it!!
So fingers crosses for tomorrow... She said he may need an operation to pin it or wash it out if it is open.
Glass of red wine on thanks for reading!!
