My dog has started turning her nose up at Royal Canin – which she has been on since she was a baby!! It is only this week – this morning I put down some pedigree chum puppy (because I wanted to see if she was not eating, or if she would eat something else) and she bolted it down.

What do you suggest? She looks fab on the Royal Canin – glossy coat etc? I dont really want to feed her pedigree chum - have been told its not that good for them, or am I wrong?

Hey, both our puppies started on pedigree puppy but its too rich :( . They always scoff down royal canin and the science plan stuff (special treats for poorly tummies :) ) They normally get James Wellbeloved biscuits and have good coats etc. How long do you leave the food down before taking it away? Mine have two meals and around 30mins to an hour to eat it and if they don't they have to wait until their next meal then they wolf it down ;).

It's not a great food. For the next few days, if she doesn't eat, take it away after ten minutes ad then offer it again at the next mealtime. She is probably just being a fusspot!

You can crack an egg over it, mix in some natural yogurt or veg/sunflower/salmon oil to make it more yummy for her.

If she continues to turn her nose up and you want to keep her on dry, Arden Grange, Skinner, Beta, are all passable!

Thanks – am quite routine with her food, she gets it put down, 10 mins, then taken away…but it is consistent nose turning! Only in the mornings though, in the evenings when she has been busy all day she would eat the scabby leg off a donkey.

CC why is it not a great food? I am afraid am quite ignorant with regards to feed and went with what the breeder said was best!

I meant Pedigree :p

My two didn't do well on RC (**** coat, ribby) but their father was on it and his competition record spoke for itself!

Maybe she is being overfaced and would cope better with one meal a day.

LOL was going to say it blinking wants to be a good food for the price you pay for it!!!!

I hAave decided that my puppy just isnt a breakfast person, I always offer it and he picks or turns his nose up, and is much hungryier later, so I have made lunch and tea bigger and breakfast smaller. I think they like to have us running round in circles

Although given a guide line of meals per day to feed a puppy, they do not neccesarily want or need that quantity, I would simply cut out the breakfast, my puppy...well rescue! (for rehoming) in the "my rotti has a growth post":D, only eats one meal a day and she is 13 weeks now, I dont fuss and I dont worry and change feed, I wont worry either unless she looses weight or condition, this is simply all she needs, she does get a piggy ear, so thats also goes towards her daily amount.
I would stick with the RC and simply cut down on the amount she is getting and keep a close eye on her weight.
