she is almost 5 months old and a picture of health :D She put on 3 kg in the last month and her coat is gleaming:D She has no itchy bits, ears, bottom, everything clean. She is fed natural instinct raw. However she smells:o At first i noticed passing her cage there was a real ‘doggy’ smell. So I washed her bedding and bathed her. But it hasnt helped, its kind of a sour odour and just seems to be ‘her’ rather than coming from any particular part of her. Any ideas?

is it her coat that smells? her ears? her feet? her breath? i would suggest that you give her a good worming! wash her bedding and sterilise her cage. and dip her feet in a dilute solution of bircarbonate of soda one a day! most smells come from the feet as this is where they sweat, but if she has smelly feet then you have to ask what is she worrying/anxious about! good luck.

ofcourseyoucan, thanks, ive done and ruled out all that and her diet suits her very well, she is thriving on it.She is in no way an anxious girl.

eta, having googled am wondering about a yeast infection, anyone any experience of that? she has no other symptoms tho

when in doubt... vets. I hate doing the wiff test. I have a bitch who comes into season stinks to high heaven shes not the cleanest of dogs at the best of times always the first to role into any crap.

absolutely agree, if she needs to see the vet of course she will go! Im just asking if anyone has any ideas. She saw the vet today actually as I popped in with her to put her on the scales while i was there collecting another of our dogs who had been in for tests. I mentioned it then and it wasnt noticeable on her. It seems to be after she has slept in her bed, it just smells really doggy - more than it should, maybe its just her but ive never come across it before..

Am I being really obvious here? Wash her bedding very frequently! It may be that, not her. Febreze is your friend, N, as I have discovered. Either that or only allow her wipeable or washable beds.

Our lot have Tuffies (made in Scotland, but not from girders! :p) and a kuranda, all of which can be hosed/wiped. They have a fab sofa bed too, but they're not allowed near it unless they're dry and clean.

Some dogs just smell more than others. My bitch in my avatar only has a faint doggy smell, whereas my friends tiny miniature schnauzer puppy was startlingly wiffy when I cuddled him the other day. Maybe it's something to do with their coats? The puppy has a lot of hair and amazing eyebrows.

going for the obvious - is your house centrally heated and therefore quite warm ? it could be she is too warm - make sure she is nowhere near radiators etc. Only a thought !

meesha - good thought! Yes her bed is by a radiator!

CT - yeh, Im obsessive... she has many bits of vetbed which are washed on almost a daily basis and her crate wiped out with antibac spray.

I do have a sneaky theory of my own now- I have a little suspicion my little darling is re-cycing a poo in the night:o

Long shot as I'm guessing she smells all the time, but if it's just certain times have you considered her flea/worm treatment as a source??

My setter absolutely stinks for a few days when I apply his spot on treatment (advocate),it's the most horrid weird smell, and worse when he wees or get's wet.I have no idea why as no one else seems to have this problem, but it's definitely the cause as only happens when I apply it,rest of the month he has no real odour.

Like i said prob not relevant to you if it's all the time or you don't use similar products, but maybe worth thinking about anything you put on her or she ingests as obviously can come out in odd ways and smells if my lad is anything to go by!!

Some breeds simply smell more than others when damp;spaniels and collies smell whereas for instance a bull terrier never does.

Ive got 6 of the same... she’s my 8th, none have had this particular aroma:o maybe i should switch to bullterriers lol. ofcourseyoucan that really doesnt work ime ;)
