my show hack mare

I really dont know what to do, I bought an ex racer for my daughter to do local shows with, we started the season off ok then in august last year we took her to a county show near by to do the ex racer showing, the judge said she is a fantastic show hack and is Wembley quality.
We arent showy people but thought we would give it a go this year. Many judges have told us she could quailfy for HOYS if produced.
Now I dont know what to do cos I cant afford for her to be produced and havent got the knowledge our selves to do it, so do I sell her or just take her back to local shows to jump which we love.
 
If you're happy doing local level stuff with her, Why do anything else? She doesnt know shes a 'HOYS quality' mare and as long as she's happy doing what you're doing with her, Why change?
 
We had only started to jump she raced at the jump was trying to slow her down, She does love showing she seems to come alive and show off, I just dont want her to be wasted when some1 could go far with her. Then again finding a right home for her could be a problem
 
Why would finding the right home be a problem?
I guess it comes down to this... Are you happy with her, and Is she happy with you? ...If the answers to both of these are yes, then Surely selling her because she is a good quality horse is barmy?
 
We would produce her but not to the stanfard needed and getting the right gear and ring craft lessons all cost, we always get placed high up in the exracers but get told to get her produced lol we have been trying a year, she aint the easiest mare to ride she is to clever
 
she is a bit hyper so has to have the right rider, my daughter wants to have fun and finds showing really serious, we do love her dont get me wrong but dont think she is in the right hands with us

My friend is an ametuer (sp) producer. Has won Wembly twice, and had reserve and champion (bred) at a big show today.

You have to start somewhere, so if you're interested give it a go. If not, just do what you enjoy best with your horse - and enjoy the fact that she is so nicely put together.

I think this is different - if perhaps you feel that your daughter would have more fun with a different horse then sell her as a show hack and buy something that suits your requirements a bit better.

If, however, she is perfect for you then ignore the comments and just enjoy yourselves

I agree with Oldmare - if you feel that the horse and rider are not the right combination then you and your daughter may both feel happier if your mare went on to a showing home and your daughter had another horse more suited to the acitivities she prefers. That way, you won't always wonder what your lovely mare might have done in the showing world. Do you have any piccies of her?
 
I think selling her would be the best just hard when we love the mare. And finding her a good home that understands her is the main thing
 
Of course it's important Pepsi - I think everyone would understand that a great home is paramount. I know it will be hard but it does sound as though you would all be happier though. Just think, you may be able to go and see her compete at Wembley!

Just out of interest, are you in a position to retain part ownership?
 
if you feel your daughter and mare aren't getting on with the discipline that your daughter likes then yeah i would sell her but if she is good at jumping and your daughter enjoys doing this with her then keep her a horse doesn't know how good it is etc and so long as she is happy and well looked after what does it matter?
Do you have any pics of her?
 
Pepsi - I just thought it might be an option to let her go to an experienced showing home but with you retaining a part share so that you could continue to be involved in her career? It would be lovely if you could keep full ownership and lease her to someone to show but I know that would be expensive if you are thinking of getting another horse for your daughter!
 
i would keep her and put her on loan but who would produce her for me to still own.
Dont know any1 in the showing world that would part own her.
So selling her to some1 with the knowledge to get the best from her seems the best option
