My Story... for anyone who has lost their confidence

Very inspiring stories on here. I have lost my confidence after having an 8 year break from riding. Funnily enough though i can ride my old mare who is a very lively ride and i can ride my 3 year old who i backed this summer and is now having a break but i can't ride my 5 year old. I just get very tense as soon as i get on him and then he goes very tense and we end up in a vicious circle so i end up hating getting on him and now i don't bother and i have a young lass that rides him really well for me. So i only lack confidence on the one horse!!

How brilliant for both of you! What a coincidence that you both have faith in your new COLOURED horses! Having one myself I strongly believe that they are such special horses ........ though that should perhaps be another thread!
May you both go from strength to strength.

That is a lovely story!! I had a bad experience with a horse I bought around 2yr ago (who I bought to take over from my two home-bred oldies) I broke them in & trained them myself & hunted/bsja'd them both & was hoping to do the same with this horse but it just didn't work out, I used to look back & wonder how I ever did what I used to with them, my confidence was being chipped away. I don't think it was really the horse's fault, just that it was not the right home, I sold her to a sj yard. Was not interested in even looking at anything else when a friend said I could have her mare to hunt for the winter as she had no rider - I went to look at her and thought she was rather small & cobby, rode & jumped her & thought otherwise, had a lovely season hunting on her & my fabulous OH bought her for me, what a difference a year makes, she is such a nice little person & have had a fab seasons showjumping on her and am about to register her bs showjumping, can't believe I own her sometimes I feel so lucky!

Your story made me cry, i have gone from eventing to not being able to let someone let go of the reins.
I think i'm beyond help and have resigned myself to never getting on again.

So pleased for you xx

J+s I think we need a whole new thread on coloured horses! Still come across a lot of rasist people though when it comes to coloured. And if 1 more person presumes she is a cob... Grrrrrrr nothing wrong with cobs but she isn't one! Js65 pm me, if I could do it anyone can,

Sorry kind of hijacked your thread :p. Your Horse is lovely and so glad you got your confidence back! It is a very fragile thing.

Hi showpony your horse is just gorgeous and im so glad you are doing well.....i have recently lost my confidence and was totally thrown back and ready to sell my gelding but have persevered and so glad i did cos i am getting better & better everyday...also popeyesno1fan i am 32 and in the same boat as you lol my 6yr old has no fear and was asking to ride my horse today obviously my gelding is far too big & strong for a 6yr old but it did make me feel rather silly to be getting nervous riding him :o

My 5 year old was the reason I got my bum back in the saddle - she can take pony around a course of jumps....in canter!
