My true story, At Christmas this year my mother in law gave me a 2 hour ride and l went and l was hooked again after not riding and owning a horse for at lest 15 years so when my partner came in to a small amount of money he said that he would buy me my own horse l was so happy l could not wait to find my perfect horse so l looked on all the horse web sites and in the end after weeks of looking l thought l post a add on nfed….Then l got a call from a lady called Amanda mar fleet saying she had a black cob aged 10 and she was really nice and she got her from a chap called Shane and she had got her as she has people who come from Australia and they all cant ride her show horses and that’s why she got her so they had a horse they could ride and as no one was coming this year so she had decided to sell her as she did not have a blade of grass and not wait till winter when she planed to sell her anyway…so of to Kent l went with my partner and l was so excited …when we got there Amanda was so nice to us she could not of been a better host ….l went and meet velvet the bay cob and not black but to be honest she looks black strange l now….l got her from the field tacked her up and of we went Amanda me and her daughter Kate we walked and trotted around where Amanda lives it was all road work but that was ok as l thought at lest l see what she’s like if a car or bus came by and velvet was good but a bit nosey l thought this is great and loved every moment…when we got back and was in Amanda’s kitchen l asked is she sound and have any issues she just said to me you get what you see at that moment something inside of me said be careful but as l really wanted a cob and velvet is a really nice horse l thought no more about it Amanda l thought at the time was great and from what l had seen of velvet she was sound…When l got her delivered by Amanda things stared to happen that l thought was velvet trying it on but since l have had her and that’s only 4 months she has bucked me of reared and bolted with my 9 year old daughter on her back luckily she was not hurt…so l thought ok what am l doing wrong so l rang Amanda and asked had she ever done this when she had her and she told me that she has never put a foot wrong so one of my horse friends rode her and she bucked her and she told me this horse is very strong and she is not a novice horse and she has not just started doing theses things so the next thing l did was rind Hazlehurst stables what was on her passport and l spoke to a man called Justin who told me never to put my daughter on her and to get rid of her and he sold her at the sales l could not believe what he was telling me…then l rang him again and asked could she be retained he asked me if l valued my riding carer. So l rang Amanda and told her what l was told she said she was shocked as this chap Shane never told her this and she said l ring him and find what was going on and she would get him to call me…..he did call and said that he did not buy her from the sales and l probable are to nice to her and treat her like a big fluffy rabbit and Justin said to him that l should not buy a horse l could not ride very different to what he said to me…so l thought ok l email Justin and ask for help and see if l got her back and teeth checked could that be a reason why is was being the way she was the email l got back again shocked me it said that velvet did not show any signs of this when he had her and it was very different to what he said on the phone …..mean while Shane said there was nothing wrong with velvet so l said ok then have her back or swap her for a horse l could ride and he said he buys and sells horses for his job and if he took her back then if any one asked me or Justin about her he would have the same problems he said that he had another horse more suited to me if l paid 1000 pounds and if any one asks me to say that l found her too strong for me and miss out the real reason…..what a night mare my dream turned into…l think velvet is really nice horse and l would love to be able to sort out her issues l did email and spoke to a horse trainer called Melanie Watson but she is based in Yorkshire and l just have the money to send her to her. Melanie has been so helpful l could not fault her….so the story ends with me and velvet me sad and feeling useless and have no idea how l could make her life happy and full field and me who now has lost all my confidence….any body would like to help me or now velvet it would be good to now more about her history

Very difficult.

What exactly does she do? Bolting etc? Every time you ride? Do you hack alone or in company? Does it make a different to her behaviour?

Do you have an instructor you could ask?

When you bought her did you have her vetted?

Velvet just decides that she does not to go where your taking her so she just bolts...... I have only gone out with her once on her own and she was good...........And l have rode her round a field with a another horse and rider and she was fine.....I know it all sounds strange but velvet is a strong cob who probley has never been schooled and a freind said to me that he thinks she may have been used for breeding as she is a hairy cob and he allso thinks that she may have been used for driveing............I really have no idea why she does theses things and need help:(
