His mouth is all sore
frown.gif
. I don't know how it happened- I have been away last week. It is where the bit would be, and alot more of it fowards and it looks like burst blisters, but its pretty much all around his mouth except at the very front. At the front he looks to have an ulcer
confused.gif
. All last week he should have been off, the people we usually use were looking after him. His tack was covered in thick dust, so I don't think they tried to use him without our permission. I have only driven him twice since Austria and although he was abit loopy he wasn't strong, so I didn't use much contact. He was certainly OK in austria as after everything they checked his mouth. His driving bit also doesn't have any moving parts, it is just a mullen mouthpeice, with 2 butterfly ends 'stuck' on the ends so nothing moves altall and to create damage like that I would have had to have been really, really sawing which I know I wouldn't dream of.
Is it possible he has eaten something? None of the other 8 ponies turned out with him have it, although he is the tallest and likes standing on his back legs to eat trees. I guess if he had eaten anything strange in the field in Germany that wouldn't be causing a problem now, would it?
I noticed it today after I had tacked him up, I was holding his reins and picking out his feet and he was moving around abit. I didn't think anything of it as he usually snuffles for bits of old hay, and tries to move a little but today he fell over.

. He is never the best balanced of creatures but I realised somthing was wrong and gave him a very close look over and saw his mouth. I think the downward pressure on the reins was hurting him so much it made him fall.
I just feel so sorry for him, after all he has given me in the last few weeks he really doesn't need this.
I couldn't get any pictures, as I didn't have a helper, but I am going to see how he is tommow. I would like to call the vet because I hate the thought of him not being able to eat properly but I can't see that they could do anything or be very concerned about it TBH.

Any Ideas?

I will call them tommow morning as I don't think it is a real emergency seeing as it has almost certainly been like it for a few days
frown.gif
. But I will make sure they come tommow. The vets round here all seem so stupid I really don't trust them though.

. One didn't know if we had strangles as he hadn't seen it before, while another told a friend to turn her lame poy out for a week to see if it got better. Its leg was broken, and obviously had to be PTS after

.

I am not sure if we have buttercups in the field- there certainly were some there earlier in the year
frown.gif
. I *think* there may have been some in the field he was in for a few hours about 2 weeks ago- I doubt that would cause it would it?

Oh no! Poor pip ((((vibes)))) Sounds like he's eaten, or at least mouthed, something. I know what its like tho, scroo had a massive allergic reaction to something a few weeks ago and lost all the hair on his face yet out of 60acres, 4 horses, 12 cattle and a million sheep the only ones affected were him and one calf.... god knows what it was and it took a good few weeks to go completely.

Thanks- I will. Its only 3 weeks from when Ginga had his reaction and his head really really swelled up, and he got lumps on his body. We know that was Bees, who have been got rid of though now.

Giant Hogweed did this to the old Appy when she got hold of some. It tends to grow near river banks, or at least in damp places and causes photosensetivity as well as sores from the sap. It is a large plant with a hoolow stem.

I don't think it could be that- again there could have been some in Germany though.
