Just wanted your opinions on her weight. She is a 23yo and very fit at the moment. It has taken about 2 to 3 months to her this far with her weight gain. Also I know she needs more topline so please no comments about it, it's just her weight I'm interested in knowing about as she lost a lot of it going in to winter :D (my god I hope that doesn't sound too rude!! :)) Many thanks!!

hi, just wanted to say what a lovely girlie you have and how well you are doing having her fit and active at 23 :-)

i dont normally comment on weight threads as i think everyone has a different perception of what weight horses should be. from a personal perspective i think she looks well but could still have a little more weight on her for going into the worst part of the winter (can it get any worse!!)

i really like baileys number 1 for my veteran, very palitable and great at putting weight on without fizz

Credit to you for getting her fit at 23 excellent news...but from my views I don't think it would hurt to see a wee bit more weight on her considering age....she looks happy enough :D

she is very slim, but looks to have good muscle tone and be very fit, so doesnt look poor to my eye.

id try for a tad more condition and keep after the topline but she looks happy and healthy to me :)

To me for a 23 year old and working she looks very good, bright and alert and I would imagen ready to go. Most throughbreds are light framed and carry very little weight. Don't need us to tell you, you are doing well.:):):)

She looks extremely well for 23 :) yeh could do with a bit more weight but having a Tb myself I know how difficult it is especially during winter months!

Thank you all very much!! I am proud I must admit lol.

I am planning on taking her hunting after Christmas, her main job is to show jump which she does very well at :D

She's fed on a mixture of feeds (please don't shoot me down as it's been working really well for her!) Alpha A Oil, 16+ mix, calm and condition (the one you soak), speedie beet and a handful of m-chaff. It has to work around her azoruria problem and she hasn't tied up for ages on it!

I shall keep feeding her the same amount (as she's getting a lot already!) and will more than likely post up more pictures of her after Christmas for opinions on her weight again.

Thanks again, it's nice to know she looks ok now :D

Well done, she looks great for 23! No wonder you are proud!! :D But I agree a bit more condition if possible would be a good thing!

I use Baileys #4, Alfa A Oil, Speedibeet and veg oil plus balancer for my poor doer which has worked wonders. If Baileys #4 is compatible with her feeding restrictions you might want to consider it, Baileys free helpline is invaluable!!

Also, have you had her back checked or a physio out etc recently. I've seen poor doers converted to good doers on the back of some physical/muscular discomfort being resolved as it's not always obvious that there is any discomfort!!

I'll definitely have a look in to seeing if baileys #4 would be ok for her to have! What would I replace it with though? Or add it in as well?

Also I must admit no she hasn't had her back checked recently but will now get him out to see her since you have mentioned that ! I never thought a back problem/discomfort which isn't visible could cause weight loss!!

Thanks :D

she looks very good and fit! well muscled and round. ready to do any job! as long as she is eating well i would be very happy. a hard days hunting she might run up a little slim, but as long as she eating plenty hay, and you give her electrolytes she will be fine. her neck is a little slim but typical thoroughbred confo. her diet is obviously suiting her. wouldnt change it. thoughif she has a few hard days work you could up it a little to compensate. enjoy. keep her working! they only go old if they have a teeth/worming/feeding/work routine which doesnt suit them.

Thank you! She really does love her work, these pictures are after the 2 hour ride we did today and she jogged the whole way by her choice! She's fed the max amount I can give her twice daily which is pretty much a full bowl. Eats it all everytime she is fed and both times is already at the gate waiting for me to bring it to her lol. Unlimited hay and grass as she's out 24/7 due to her legs filling up quite bad in the stable, even with stable bandages on! :D
