My ever faithful Musto jacket is no longer watertight along the arm seams. I have fallen down an internet hole looking for another (not necessarily a Musto as they don't actually seem to have many horsey ones available?) and would appreciate some real reviews and recommendations of riding jackets - I am looking for a lightweight, hip length VERY waterproof jacket, must have a hood! I'm also not looking to spend millions on said jacket :-)

Equetech are excellent - They are rated 16,000 waterproof which will beat Musto hands down unless you had one of the very very expensive ones. The only issue is it says out of stock on Equetech but they are appearing on other websites.

I have a venture as wanted a longer jacket but it stands up to everything.

Otherwise the Weatherbeeta have an excellent rep WeatherBeeta Kyla Waterproof Jacket - they also do a shorter one.

I have good success with Trespass coats at around 5000 waterproof but not as good as the Equetech.

Ooh I like the equetech one, that's the sort of thing I'm after. I'd looked at the Weatherbeeta ones last year as a winter coat (ended up with a noble outfitters one that I think I could wear to the Arctic) and think they'd be too hot for right now. Had discounted trespass/regatta as not sure they'd be waterproof enough!

I recently bought a Jack Wolfskin coat for £70 in their sale which is 10000 thingies for waterproof and breathable. Not as stylish as an Equetech but very pleased with it in the recent downpours and humidity. Didrickson (sp?) were another make which was suggested as good from a waterproof point although I chose the JW as it was a better style for similar money.

JW are fabulous as they state the waterproofing and breathability of their jackets, I wear only their jackets for work (always bought in the sale, or the outlet in Ashford Designer Village) and one of them is the lightest, warmest AND most breathable (though the pit zips help too!) jacket I own, it's made from this https://www.jack-wolfskin.co.uk/texapore-ecosphere/. Didrikson are not very breathable at all, I had looked at them but they're a big compromise.

However, good as they are for standing, walking etc, they're not really designed for riding so check the design and be sure it'll work for what you need.

My mum can't resist a bargain, even if it's not suitable for her. She's not horsey at all but came across a lightweight Harry Hall jacket in Go Outdoors in the sale. £70 reduced to £25 so she bought it for me. I didn't expect much from it but it's been amazing. Truly waterproof, not sweaty at all and looks quite smart too.

Interesting re didrickson and breathability, glad I chose JW! My JW doesn't have a zip that can undo from the bottom but as it's a jacket not a coat it's fine. But definitely a good point for others looking.

Really happy to read this as I just ordered an Equetech this morning! Managed to find one which is (hopefully) my size and was in the sale too! Mine is replacing a Musto too, they don't seem to do that many anymore and my last one didn't last as long as the first one I had.

Whitaker. Mine cost me £30 in a sale, and the amount of abuse that jacket has been through is unbelieveable yet it is still waterproof and completely warm.
It's been through numerous bushes, left outside, trodden on, thrown in various places, it was frozen solid one night when I left it outside by accident, I have fallen off in it twice... it also has numerous pockets, all zipped.

Have just taken the plunge and ordered the equetech pura mentioned up thread, it should be here tomorrow so will be excited to report back!!!
