Blimey it was a long journey - and rained the whole way there. Though thankfully it stopped once I arrived and held off when we were riding.

She's a lovely mare

Really pretty and sweet. Held all feet up to be picked out, good to tack up but a little stroppy when the girth was being done up. Stood to mount and waited until asked to walk on. The owner rode her first and then I got on. She was completely different to anything I'd ridden before. I'm used to my ID X and this horse's paces were so bouncy it was hard for me to find my balance at first. I did walk/trot/canter on both reins and several circles. She's very balanced and goes off your leg straight away when asking for canter. Also did a bit of shoulder-in and half pass which I've never done it before so it wasn't great! The owner's daughter then got on and jumped her, and she pinged over them.

TBH she did tick all my boxes, the only thing is the price which is a little high but she is very well schooled and really lovely to ride. Owner said she'd take £4800 with no tack. I'm definitely getting a 5* done, which I'd need for insurance anyway.

I'm going to see another KWPN on Saturday (he's a bit cheaper!) so depending on how that goes, I think this mare is the one. I think she will teach me a lot and I will be able to have fun on her.

I have a video of me riding her but please bare in mind I was nervous at riding a new horse and a bit unbalanced so I'm rising a bit too high. She's also not in an outline, which I'm not bothered about at this stage. She hasn't been ridden very often lately because of lack of time so she needs more muscle and topline.

While I'm waiting for video to upload here's some video stills for those of you who may not be able to see the video.

Feedback welcome as long as it is constructive - I've had a long day and knackered!!!

Lovely looking mare, how old is she? More details please! And if i remember rightly your wanting something for dressage? Is that right!??

I posted about her in my thread "what do you reckon?". She's rising 14 in June but has done Level 4 dressage in Holland. She was imported in 2005. 16.1hh KWPN.

Yeah I am looking to start dressage so wanting something that can do at least Prelim/Novice level stuff so anything more is a bonus

Sorry didnt see it!

Looks a nice sort, would try and knock price down a tad though.... but then again if she is 100% in every way, you cant really put a price on it! However, if you're still wanting to go and look at other horses, would suggest maybe she isnt "the one"...

Sorry to be really bleurgh, but do you have permission to post pics of the horse on open forum?

I think the price is quite steep from looking at the pics and video, but it is hard to judge without seeing her ridden forwards into the bridle. At the end of the day, you WILL know which is the best horse for you - good luck with it!

BD do put points onto them... but if you take her to a listed judge for an assessment they can downgrade them to the level you are looking to compete at.

Weezy - yes.

Carthorse - don't think so. Owner has taken her to some Prelims and got 64% even without an outline. Where would I find out about loadings for an imported horse? Surely they would have mentioned it to owner when she competed if so?

Shouldnt she be workng in an outline if she has done quite high level dressage, espec at 13?

Sorry to be negative but it sounds a lot of money for an almost 14 yr old horse who you say needs more work and topline and isnt working in an outline, espec if you want her for dressage.

Im sure you could get something younger for the same price who was working correctly.

Sorry I dont know the mare im just going by the pics so I could be totally wrong.

without sticking my noise in - i would ask for her reg name
call the BD and check - winnings, age ect call them see what classes she has done.

just a tip - when vetted get the vet to scan for a microchip x

i broke my horse in and three weeks later took it to a local ridding school and got a 69% score in prelim dressage.

Best to phone BD about imported horses points. They would give her400 points as she was imported at the age of 12.It will cost £75 for a downgrade assessment but maybe they have done this or maybe they have just done unaffilliated and not declared the history of the horse. She looks a nice straight forward horse and you could probably learn alot from her if you find a good dressage instructor.

Looking at advert - she has a lovely jump and very good breeding x

I would just get vetted to make sure 100% and enjoy her then have a lovely foal he he x

I hope you dont mind me saying but you look very under horsed on this one.

What do you mean by that? I'm too big for her?

The thing with the outline is that she has lost a lot of her muscle and topline so takes a while for her to come down to the bit. I couldn't get her head right down as I am used to a reasonably loose contact on my mare but apparently this horse needs a tighter one so it's just getting to grips with it under instruction. When's she's working regularly apparently she drops down right away.

I am not planning on doing affliated dressage - just unaff - if so will the points still make a difference?

I will ring BD on Monday and see what they say about her results as I got her registered name. Also she has got a microchip.

I've not made up my mind 100% yet but am seriously thinking about it.

I have to say I thought the price was quite a lot too. I would also find out where the mare comes from if she is imported as not all horses on the continent are great or even worth anything more than the average horse here.

It really depends on what you are looking for though too, although she does not look like she is schooled to a BD standard as such but then I haven't seen much of the mare and it can be difficult to get to grips with a horse straight away.

You know the type of horse you are looking for though so it doesn't matter what anyone thinks as long as you are happy.

I agre please dont fall in love with the idea of an imported warmblood, they are not all superstars or great horses.

You just seem to be saying what she CAN be like when in work etc etc, but for the price you will be paying, and her age, well surely she should be at least doing some of it now?

I hope I dont sound really negative, I can tell you like this mare but you mention things like she is good to pick her feet out etc, I should think so at 13!
smile.gif

I havent seen your previous post so can only go by what I see here, but if you only want to do unaffiliated dressage i think you can get more for your money.

I appreciate everyone's opinions. If I was 100% I guess I wouldn't be posting on here!

The thing with the picking feet out and standing to be mounted may not be a big deal to some people but it is important to me after having a mare who will not let you do either without a struggle!
smile.gif

I do like the warmbloods as I like their paces but I'm not ruling out other breeds at all. Trying to be open minded about it all.

I do really like her but my sensible head is telling me: for that amount of money she'd really have to be younger and fit and ready to go. So because of her age and level of fitness she should be cheaper.

Yeah
smile.gif
you are right Lady_bug. There are a million of horses out there to look at as well, it is a very difficult thing isn't it, trying out horses, vetting and then there is getting them home and sorted!

I think it is a sensible decision asking people what they thought, definitely.

Good Luck with everything.

Di

Totally agree Lady_Bug!
smile.gif

She is a nice mare but quite a lot of money for what she is doing at present and her age.

I would go and see the gelding you mentioned, seeing more horses may help you decide if she is or isnt the one.

Yes but remember if you like warmbloods they are not all easy to ride and this one 'you say' is easy to ride which is important to you if you want to learn. Having said that our warmblood [bay in siggie] who we bought as a yearling from horsegroupie is the easiest horse to ride in the world and has a lovely attitude but is accident prone, so they can be straight forward even if young. The price is a bit high and I think if he was in an outline he would look super ,in the photos even with him off the bit he shows cadence in his trot as there seems to be a moment of suspension.I bet he looks lovely when on the bit, the expense starts after you buy them.If you feel you could learn on her go for it

Would you like yours ones full brother too, he isn't as accident prone!! Only Joking!

I think the horse looks good, personally I love warmbloods, I think with a little time you'd be well away with her! Warmblood prices can vary widely and alot of europes rubbish gets sent over here and spewed out though unscupulous dealers at top wack but from what ive seen this seems like a nice little horse and you have to remember people ask more for a coloured as well. I don't know enough about the horse to tell you if the price is right but I can tell you i've paid £3500 for an 18yo KWPN broodmare and £3500 for a AES reg Mare with a bit of competition history and I paid x000's for a 25yo WB stallion a few years back, it was the best money I ever spent!! What you have to remember is a horse is only worth what people are willing to pay for it!
Carthorse got offered 10 times what they paid for their little horse (they turned it down because the horse means more to them than money) but my point is that horses don't necessarily have a fixed price, its dependant on who's looking at the time, what they can do and yes sometimes colour!

Good Luck i personally like the little i've seen and age has never bothered me, sometimes having a sensible older horse is worth a 100 younger ones!

Her age doesn't really bother me either, it's just I would have liked her to be cheaper taking her age into consideration and also the fact that she is so unfit. If she was up for £3-3500 I'd be booking the vetting today
