so, she is 5 and half, Whippet x Lab - best family dog ever.
However we have this anoying habit - she cuts herself every year in the winter. 2 years ago it was on boxing day, and it happened again today!
She has cut her tummy, her leg (twice) and her ear. Now, its her side. About the size of a ten pence piece, completely ripped her skin off (little flap kinda thing). I have sprayed it with anticeptic spray but not touched it other than that. I think it should heal without further problems IF she leaves it alone and doesn't lick it open and make it sore. What could I do to stop her licking it, aside from one of those lamp shade collars? I will keep a close eye on it, and if it gets worse in any way will take her to the vet. I can't see it needing any more than 1 stitch, but 'home' treatment ideas welcome please!
Thanks

Hope they came out ok!

Nothing you can do except keep it clean and stop her licking it. I used to wrap my whippet xlabx greyhound in vet wrap - right around her body to keep her from licking her wounds. She used to corner round the house really fast and graze herself on the walls of the house and remove chunks. Anything that covered it was ok - she liked bandages, and I would put a coat on her over the top to stop her getting to it. The vet would never stitch as her skin was so thin it just tore so we had to just wait for it to heal.

My spangle sliced her ampit open just beofre xmas, she had to have five staples. A lampshade thing lasted, ohhh all of 10 minutes. I put her in one of my sons T shirts. She looked daft but it meant she couldn't get to it and lick it. Did the job.
