My filly has to have at least 3 weeks box rest but I have her and another yearling and my sons pony at home. So they either all go out or all stay in. If one goes out and not the others all hell breaks loose, especially if the yearlings go anywhere without the other.
So my problem is that they will both be on box rest so to speak!
The one that doesn't need box rest will go loopy being kept in for so long but the vet said he'll give me sedalin for the filly.
What are my options? I was thinking of taking the yearling that is fine away to someone else's yard while the filly is on box rest but i will worry about him and it will be a pain having to go somewhere else to look after him as well as the horses at home. Anyone have any good ideas? Thanks

Also in breeding

sorry no ideas.i also have 3 at home and wondered how i would cope in the same situation.assume you havent got a field shelter or stable overlooking the field so pony on box rest could see others.

The filly would go loopy if she was left on her own, she tries jumping the door and that would really be no good when she is supposed to be recovering!

i am in a similar situation mine are at home and i coulnt leave my youngster or my old mare in without all hell breaking loose to and my horses can see each other !..if i was in your shoes i would have to leave the one in on box rest and the other two as well. if they get that upset been seperated its safer to keep them all in especially with fields been wet and slippy three weeks will fly by

Hope your little horsey gets better soon

and i hope someone puts a good ueful post up as i could use some advise to in this situation!!

They can all see each other too and i think it would be just as bad if they couldn't. My filly jumped a 5 bar gate at 4 months old and she has tried jumping the stable door too before i was quick enough to shut the top door. I think by the second week it may be sedalin all round!

personally I would send the yearling (injured one) to a yard with other horses which will be in all the time i.e. rehab yard or suchlike. Surprising how well they settle with that as there is always plenty going on seems to break the boredom. Otherwise your only other real option is sedalin for the other one and keeping them both in. Good luck with whatever you end up doing. :-)

well i took my youngster to the vet the other day and she was in on her own with no other horses and soon settled ! little bugger ! as she wouldnt do that at home!! sounds like your youngster is going to be a confident little jumper!! Good luck
