My yearling has just started grinding his teeth in the last couple weeks. He only does it if he sees me with food and he seems to grind once or twice and thats it. I havent heard him do it at any other stage. Ive bred him out of my own mare whove ive also owned most of her life :).. He was wintered out last year and was out at grass until mid september the only reason he is being stabled this year is lack of grass.. About a month ago he had been tested for fluke worms and it came back that he had a couple of eggs in his poo and we treated him for this and hes due another wormer this week the vet wanted him dosed again in a month... he currently gets a small bucket feed with sugarbeat and chaff and very little.. we feed haylage and we try to feed it so they r eating most of the day.. so he has little time to get bored.. he also gets turned out into the arena for a roll and muck about with my 2 year old connemara.

Any suggestions as to why you think he may be doing this would be very much appreicated

Is he in all the time except when turned in the arena?
If so he will be bored, a youngster needs plenty of time out with company. He may also be finding the haylage rather uninteresting it usually has less variety of grasses than hay, maybe a stable lick, not the mainly molassed ones, could help and some carrots or a swede to chew at or a feed ball when he is stabled.

thank u for ur reply... i did think it could possibly b out of boredom :) he has a lick in his stable at min and ive tried one of the trickle feeders the ball one but it doesnt interested him at all ill have to invest in something else for him and see if this help. unfortunately we have no grass this year or else hed b wintered out again :(
