Hi all as per my previous posts I have recently purchased my WBxTB who is 2 next month, he is getting on well and has started putting weight on but not overly (he has lived out since early last year) I have kept him on his original feed of Hifi, Speedibeet and a handful of Pony nuts.
He is really flaky in his Mane, none in Tail and also dusty in coat which does not go with the hours of brushing!!
I attempted to bath him during our Hot spell but its going to be a slow process considering he is only a Baby!
Keeping his age and size (standing at 14.3hh at the moment) what can I do or give him to help this go? I dont think he has Lice I have checked him over and cant see anything.
Sorry for my long post :-)

My youngster is the same, been told to try a teatree oil shampoo and add some vegi oil to his food as this wil help oil the skin. I am thinking of trying some lice powder just incase but sure he has none.

Has he had a neck rug on over winter? With a rug neck the skin can't moult/flake off properly sometimes, it should right itself in a few weeks though. You could always try Nizoral anti dandruff shampoo stuff from the chemist or head and shoulders?!!

so funny that you say this, my 5year old has very flaky skin at the moment. I put a post in vetinary: http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=448029

But hers is all over a bit of her bum muscle and looks like shes going to be bald all over it. I was wondering if it was mites or lice but she is not itchy at all etc.

As it started spreading even worse now I have taken some photos and emailed them to my vet and are waiting for them to ring me back.

I washed my mare in dermoline insectal shampoo so will let you know what the vet says!

As far as im aware yes he has had a neck rug over the winter, fingers crossed it does right itself.
As for poster awaiting Vets reply please let me know what they say :-)

Multi vitamins and linseed oil can help improve coat massively.

However if your really worried maby get the vet to check over? Will probably give you special shampoo.
Worth treating for mites/louse powder just incase.

I use feedmarks benevit advance, its best value and best results !
It says is fine for foals, just adjust doesage accordingly
Without wishing to sound like and advert, seriously the improvment in my horsies coats with it it astonising, beautiful and glossy after a few months feeding of it :D

Thanks im going to give this a try along with some Garlic to keep the pesky flies away :-)

same probelm :) mines rising three and coming right now with linseed oil and baths (luckily he's a star for this)

i got caught out with lice though - did'nt see them until i'd taken him to the vets for jabs and he sweated up in the lorry (although i've been lucky enough not to have seen them before but he was covered and i missed them - oh the shame :) )
