As Penfold has been diagnosed with soft palate displacement we are trying a grackle noseband on him .He is ridden in a myler comfort snaffle for dressage but xc he wears a wide barrelled one with slots for the reins. Is it ok to use a grackle with these bits as I was once told not to?
Have emailed myler but may take time to get reply

Hi Claire
I do the dressage phase of BE in a mexican noseband and myler comfort and for the jumping phases i use a neue universal bit and mexican noseband, which has caused us no problems.

I use a myler kimblewick with a mexican grackle (although I know it is technically incorrect to use one with a kimblewick). I think myler state not to use anything other than a cavesson because they claim that with their bits you shouldn't need one but I don't think there is an actual problem to use one if you know what I mean.
I use my grackle because Jenny dislikes any nosebands that fasten over her molar teeth which obviously I don't get with the mexican - or I suppose I could use a drop - but that would also be frowned on with a kimblewick. I don't have any problems using the 2 together anyway.

Poeple use the combination bits with a grackle so am sure it will be fine

I use a combination bit with a grackle. My mare is extremely strong and opens her mouth and puts her tounge over the bit and crosses her jaw. She loves the combination bit and together they work well. Do what your horse is happy with. Don't decide not to do something just because other people say you are not meant to. If your horse is happy and comfortable that is the main thing.
