Does any one use a mylar combination? Are they any good for big strong horses that lean down ? Has anyone had problems with the horse 'running through' and damaging the soft tissue where the nose strap sits ? Thanks !

I borrowed one for a while but didn't end up buying one after trying it.

My horse is very strong & forward going and it didn't help at all. She hated the noseband part and started throwing her head around a lot which is something she has never done, so the owner of the bit said I could wrap it in sheepskin. I know this kind of defeats the object of having that noseband but I tried it anyway and she still hated it. I persevered for a month hoping she would accept it but she never did.

The hide on the noseband is very very hard on the one I tried but it was a few years back so things may have changed by now.

I used one on my huge Irish hunter who was a great one for ripping the reins from my hands - neck like a bull & few manners. He didn't like the noseband - you soak the rawhide bit to fit your horse - but by golly, it stopped him. I had a comfort snaffle with short shanks. On reflection, I would now have bought the long shank model, but it depends how light your hands are and how much leverage you want.

Mmm might try it to add to my collection this horse also can rip the reins right through your hands I do have some fairly 'meaty' bits I use for hunting usually take him out in a nelson with a Waterford mouthpiece and use some sort of gag for fast work at home but like to change the bit every few weeks if not he can workout how to get round them he's a bit of an old monkey though because if his bloods not up you can ride him on the buckle in a snaffle !
